SURGICAL DRILL WITH AUTOMATIC RETRACTION AND ASSOCIATED METHODS AND SYSTEMS
The present technology relates to surgical drilling devices, and associated systems and methods. In some embodiments, a surgical drilling device includes a drill bit and a retraction mechanism. The retraction mechanism can include a housing, a slide assembly within the housing and operably coupled to the drill bit, a spring element engaging the slide assembly, and a locking element coupled to the slide assembly. The locking element can be movable between a locked configuration and an unlocked configuration based on an amount of force applied by the drill bit to the slide assembly. When in the locked configuration, the locking element can secure the slide assembly to the housing. When in the unlocked configuration, the locking element can allow the spring element to displace the slide assembly proximally within the housing to retract the drill bit.
SYSTEM FOR NEURONAVIGATION REGISTRATION AND ROBOTIC TRAJECTORY GUIDANCE, ROBOTIC SURGERY, AND RELATED METHODS AND DEVICES
A system for robotic surgery makes use of an end-effector which has been configured so that a drill connected thereto is guided in its trajectory and limited in its advancement into an associated anatomical feature by a drill guide. The drill guide may be adjusted manually to engage a corresponding surface of the drill after its advancement by a pre-selected amount. The drill guide likewise includes features to guide the drill during trajectories having oblique angles relative to the surface of the anatomical feature associated with the medical procedure.
Drill guide fixtures, cranial insertion fixtures, and related methods and robotic systems
A drill guide fixture may be configured to prepare a skull for attachment of a cranial insertion fixture. The drill guide fixture may include a central drill guide and a bone anchor guide at a base of the drill guide fixture. The central drill guide may define a central drill guide hole therethrough, wherein the central drill guide hole has a first opening at a base of the drill guide fixture and a second opening spaced apart from the base of the drill guide fixture. The bone anchor drill guide may define a bone anchor drill guide hole therethrough, and the bone anchor drill guide hole may be offset from the central drill guide hole in a direction that is perpendicular with respect to a direction of the central drill guide hole. Related cranial insertion fixtures, robotic systems, and methods are also discussed.
System and method for integrated surgical guide-hub and drill with guided drilling and plunge protection
A drilling system includes a guide-hub that includes contact feet configured to be placed against a drilling surface to maintain a fixed angle with the drilling surface. A drilling insert includes a drill bit and a harness. The drilling insert is configured to be inserted into the guide-hub and the harness is configured to detect when the drill bit punctures the drilling surface and automatically prevent further drilling.
Surgical Burs
A surgical bur is disclosed having cutting and trailing edges and associated flutes and lands. Each flute includes a cutting edge. Each of the trailing edges relatives in a selected dimension to a preceding cutting edge.
Anchoring System and Method for Cranial Access
An anchoring system for cannulas or tools to be inserted into a surgical workspace in the body, particularly the brain, of a patient. The system comprises a mounting ring which may be fixed to the skull to both secure the system to the skull and protect the skull opening from passage of cannulas and tools, a resilient clip with grasping jaws adapted to firmly grasp a cannula or tool, and a flexible membrane secured to the outer rim of the mounting ring and the clip.
Cranial plating and bur hole cover system and methods of use
The present disclosure is for a device, tooling, methods of use and kits containing the cranial plates and bur hole covers used for resecuring a cranial flap after a craniotomy. The cranial repair system is meant to reduce the profile of cranial plates or bur hole covers on the external surface of the cranium after a craniotomy is performed. The embodied devices of present disclosure are designed to reside substantially within the kerf or bur holes and thus minimize the surface area of devices resides on the external surface of the cranium. Additional embodiments include kits, tooling and methods to further reduce and/or eliminate the external profile of the cranial plate on the external cranial surface.
MEDICAL TOOL HAVING CONNECTION RECOGNITION AND MEDICAL TOOL HAVING DECOUPLING RECOGNITION
A medical tool, in the form of a rotatably drivable tool, in particular a cutting tool such as a trepanation tool, the tool having a drive portion which can be connected to a medical device for in particular interlockingly transmitting torque, and a cutting portion which can be coupled to the drive portion so as to transmit torque. The tool comprises an electronic assembly which is designed to be activated by the tool being connected to the medical device, preferably by an operation of plugging the tool into the medical device, and/or to be activated by the cutting portion being decoupled from the drive portion.
DRILLING DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS
Devices, systems, and methods for drilling an anatomical element are provided. A drill bit may comprise a coaxial hollow shaft in communication with a plurality of apertures disposed on a surface of the drill bit. A fluid inlet may be in fluid communication with the coaxial hollow shaft via a selectively openable valve. The fluid inlet may be configured to receive pressurized fluid. When the valve is opened, the pressurized fluid may be released into the coaxial hollow shaft, and when at least one of the plurality of apertures is not blocked, the pressurized fluid may be released through the at least one aperture of the plurality of apertures.
Multiple connection drive shaft
Disclosed is a system to engage a plurality of tools. In the system a drive shaft and collet may be assembled to engage and disengage, selectively, a plurality of tools. User selection may allow use of a plurality of tools during a procedure or during a plurality of procedures.
