Glass fiber sizing compositions, sized glass fibers, and polyolefin composites

The present invention relates to sizing compositions, to glass fibers at least partially coated with such sizing compositions, to a variety of fiber glass products at least partially coated with such sizing compositions, and to composites formed from cycloolefins and reinforced with glass fibers at least partially coated with sizing compositions of the present invention. In one non-limiting embodiment, a sizing composition for glass fibers comprises a film-former comprising a polymer, wherein the repeating unit of the polymer comprises at least four carbon atoms and at least one carbon-carbon double bond, and a silane. A sizing composition for glass fibers, in another non-limiting embodiment, comprises a film-former comprising a polymer, wherein the repeating unit of the polymer comprises four to six carbon atoms and one carbon-carbon double bond, in an amount between about 60 and about 90 weight percent on a total solids basis, and a silane comprising a terminal vinyl group in an amount between about 5 and about 25 weight percent on a total solids basis.

Preparation for fiberglass air filtration media

A system and method of forming fiberglass air filtration media is disclosed which does not require the use of oil additives. A mixture of resin binder, polymer, and dry adhering agent is formed and applied to the fiberglass as it spins onto the drum. Additionally, the fiberglass filtration media density can vary such that the fiber on the air inflow is less dense than the fiber on the air outflow. After oven curing, the finished air filtration media has an improved ability to attract and hold dust and other contaminants.

METHOD OF PRODUCING AN OPTICAL FIBER AND APPARATUS OF PRODUCING THE OPTICAL FIBER

A method of producing an optical fiber, containing: (a) a resin application step of applying an ultraviolet curable resin, onto an outer circumference of an optical fiber; (b) a heating step of heating the ultraviolet curable resin; and (c) a light irradiation step of irradiating the ultraviolet curable resin with ultraviolet light emitted from a semiconductor light emitting element, in a state in which the ultraviolet curable resin is heated, to cure the ultraviolet curable resin into a coating resin.

CROSSLINKABLE POLYMERIC COMPOSITIONS WITH AMINE-FUNCTIONALIZED INTERPOLYMERS, METHODS FOR MAKING THE SAME, AND ARTICLES MADE THEREFROM

Crosslinkable polymeric compositions comprising an ethylene-based polymer, an organic peroxide, and an amine-functionalized interpolymer. Such crosslinkable polymeric compositions and their crosslinked forms can be employed as polymeric layers in wire and cable applications, such as insulation in power cables.

ASPHALT COMPOSITION FOR ROOFING APPLICATIONS

According to one aspect, an asphalt blend can include asphalt, a first polymer additive, and carbon black. The blend can be mixed with filler to prepare a filled asphalt mix. The blends and mixes may have a particular softening point or penetration at 115 F. that may provide improved performance or durability.

20170029631 · 2017-02-02 · ·

The present invention concerns an aqueous flame retardant composition for mineral fiber-based mats, in particular glass or rock fibers, which comprises: at least one thermoplastic or thermoset resin; magnesium hydroxide, Mg(OH).sub.2, and aluminum hydroxide, AlOOH, as flame retarding agents; and optionally, carbon black.

It also concerns mats treated with said flame retardant composition.

POLYMER COATED OPTICAL FIBER

Coated optical fibers and uses of such fibers as sensors in high temperature and/or high pressure environments. The coated optical fiber has improved sensing properties at elevated pressure and/or temperature, such as enhanced acoustic sensitivity and/or a reduced loss in acoustic sensitivity. The use of the coated optical fibers in various sensing applications that require operation under elevated pressure and/or temperature, such as, acoustic sensors for various geological, security, military, aerospace, marine, and oil and gas applications are also provided.

DISSOLVABLE GLASS FIBRES FOR WOOD PRESERVATIVES AND DEGRADABLE COMPOSITE MATERIALS

A fibre structure formed from dissolvable glass fibres is provided, the dissolvable glass fibres being formed from one or more boron compounds and one or more alkali compounds. The dissolvable glass can be formed into filaments, rovings and staple fibres of varying composition, length and diameter dependent on functionality and purpose. A mixture of chemicals components are heated, melted and then drawn or extruded into dissolvable filaments, rovings and staple fibres for use in a fibre-reinforced composite part or as a preservative in the internal and surface treatment of solid wood and engineered composite panels. A water-soluble surface coating may be applied to adjust dissolution rate and facilitate binding into an air-laid nonwoven mat or incorporation into other matrices.
