A method of applying a coloured coating to a decorative element such as a gemstone. The method comprises: providing an ink mixture comprising an ink and an organic carrier, the carrier comprising a polymerisable organic material; arranging the ink mixture and the decorative element in a plasma; and allowing the ink mixture to polymerise on a surface of the decorative element to form a polymerised colour coating. The polymerisable organic material may comprise a polymerisable siloxane or a polymerisable oxysilane.

The present invention relates to a process for producing an antimicrobial coating on a glass substrate, an antimicrobial coated glass substrate prepared by the process and use thereof, the process comprising the steps of: i) providing a glass substrate having a first surface and a second surface; ii) providing a silicon containing solution and a particle containing solution; iii) mixing together the silicon containing solution and the particle containing solution to form a silica coating composition; iv) contacting at least said first surface of the substrate with the silica coating composition to deposit a layer of silica on the glass substrate; and iv) curing the silica coating composition deposited on the glass substrate to form a silica matrix coating layer, wherein the particles are deposited on and/or within the silica matrix coating layer wherein the particles are deposited on and/or within the silica matrix coating layer in an amount of from 0.1 to 20% by weight.

A scenario-adaptable color-changing ink and a corresponding solar glass product are provided. The ink includes 7-30 parts by weight of photopolymer, 8-20 parts by weight of photoactive monomer, 1-5 parts by weight of photosensitizer, 30-55 parts by weight of weather-resistant resin, 1-10 parts by weight of curing agent, and 1-15 parts by weight of pearlescent pigment. The pearlescent pigment is at least one interference pearlescent pigments with weather-resistance, which has no color. Each sheet of the pearlescent pigment can be considered as a miniature prism which can break the white composite light into colorful monochromatic light, thus allow the coating of the printing ink to present a beautiful pearl luster and metallic luster. The pattern color which is visible by human is a result of overlaps and interferes of lights that the incident light is multiply reflected and refracted by the sheets of transparent pearlescent pigment.
