High strength transparent ceramic using corundum powder and methods of manufacture

High strength transparent corundum ceramics using corundum powder and methods of manufacture are disclosed. The method of forming transparent corundum ceramics includes milling corundum powder in aqueous slurry with beads. The method further includes processing the slurry by a liquid shaping process to form a gelled body. The method further includes sintering the gelled body in air and pressing the gelled body by hot isostatic pressing to form a ceramic body.

20200123063 · 2020-04-23 · ·

A preparation method for a ceramic composite material, a ceramic composite material, and a wavelength converter. The preparation method comprises: preparing an aluminium salt solution and a fluorescent powder; dispersing the fluorescent powder into a buffer solution having a pH 4.5-5.5 to obtain a suspension; titrating the suspension with the aluminium salt solution to obtain a fluorescent powder coated with Al.sub.2O.sub.3 hydrate film; calcining the fluorescent powder coated with Al.sub.2O.sub.3 hydrate film to obtain a Al.sub.2O.sub.3-coated fluorescent powder; mixing aluminium oxide powder with a particle size of 0.1 m-1 m and aluminium oxide powder with a particle size of 1 m-10 m to obtain mixed aluminium oxide powder; mixing the Al.sub.2O.sub.3-coated fluorescent powder and the mixed aluminium oxide powder to obtain mixed powder, the Al.sub.2O.sub.3-coated fluorescent powder being present in 40%-90% by weight of the mixed powder; and pre-pressing and sintering the mixed powder to obtain the ceramic composite material.

Ceramic and polymer composite, and uses thereof

A ceramic and polymer composite including: a first continuous phase comprising a sintered porous ceramic having a solid volume of from 50 to 85 vol % and a porosity or a porous void space of from 50 to 15 vol %, based on the total volume of the composite; and a second continuous polymer phase situated in the porous void space of the sintered porous ceramic. Also disclosed is a composite article, a method of making the composite, and a method of using the composite.

MANUFACTURING SYSTEM, PROCESS, ARTICLE, AND FURNACE

A manufacturing system includes a tape advancing through the manufacturing system and a station of the manufacturing system. The tape includes a first portion having grains of an inorganic material bound by an organic binder. The station of the manufacturing system receives the first portion of the tape and prepares the tape for sintering by chemically changing the organic binder and/or removing the organic binder from the first portion of the tape, leaving the grains of the inorganic material, to form a second portion of the tape and, at least in part, prepare the tape for sintering.

Transparent nanocomposite ceramics built from core/shell nanoparticles

A method for making transparent nanocomposite ceramics and other solid bulk materials from nanoparticle powders and transparent nanocomposite ceramics and other solid bulk materials formed using that method. A nanoparticle powder is placed into a reaction chamber and is treated to produce a clean surface powder. The clean surface powder is coated with a second material by means of p-ALD to produce core/shell or core multi shell nanoparticles having a coating or coatings of a other material surrounding the nanoparticle. The core/shell nanoparticles are cleaned and formed into green compact which is sintered to produce a transparent nanocomposite ceramic or other solid bulk material consisting of nanoparticles or core/shell nanoparticles uniformly embedded in a matrix of a different material, particularly in a matrix of a different ceramic material, formed by outer shell of initial core/shell. All steps are performed without exposing the material to the ambient.
