COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND METHOD FOR PREPARING THE SAME
A method for preparing a ceramic-modified carbon-carbon composite material. The method includes preparing and thermally treating a carbon fiber preform, and depositing pyrolytic carbon on the carbon fiber preform in a chemical vapor infiltration furnace, to yield a porous carbon-carbon composite material; placing the carbon-carbon composite material deposited with the pyrolytic carbon on a zirconium-titanium powder mixture, and performing a reactive melt infiltration, to yield a carbon-carbon composite material modified by non-stoichiometric zirconium titanium carbide; and placing the carbon-carbon composite material modified by non-stoichiometric zirconium titanium carbide in a powder mixture including carbon, boron carbide, silicon carbide, silicon, and an infiltration enhancer, and performing an embedding method, to form a ceramic-modified carbon-carbon composite material.
EROSION RESISTANT HARD COMPOSITE MATERIALS
A hard composite composition may comprise a binder and a polymodal blend of matrix powder. The polymodal blend of matrix powder may have at least one first local maxima at a particle size of about 0.5 nm to about 30 m, at least one second local maxima at a particle size of about 200 m to about 10 mm, and at least one local minima between a particle size of about 30 m to about 200 m that has a value that is less than the first local maxima.
BINDER FOR INJECTION MOULDING COMPOSITIONS
A binder for an injection moulding composition includes: from 35 to 54% by volume of a polymeric base, from 40 to 55% by volume of a mixture of waxes, and approximately 10% by volume of a surfactant, wherein the polymeric base contains copolymers of ethylene and methacrylic or acrylic acid, or copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate, or copolymers of ethylene including maleic anhydride or a mixture of these copolymers, as well as polyethylene, polypropylene and acrylic resin.

REFRACTORY METAL MATRIX-CERAMIC COMPOUND MULTI-COMPONENT COMPOSITE MATERIAL WITH SUPER-HIGH MELTING POINT
A refractory metal matrix-ceramic compound multi-component composite material with the super-high melting point is disclosed. At least one ceramic compound A and at least one refractory bonding metal B are fused together by the smelting process to make the multi-component composite material. The fused ingredients of the multi-component composite material are mAnB, and 2(m+n)13. The positive integer m is the number of the kinds of the ceramic components A, and the positive integer n is the number of the kinds of the refractory bonding metals B. The absolute value of the combining enthalpy of the ceramic compound A is larger than the absolute value of the combining enthalpy between the ceramic compound A and the refractory bonding metal B. The material has the properties including over 3000 C. melting point, high stability, hardness, ductility, and fusibility in high or low temperature, fast production, and low cost.
SUPPORTING SUBSTRATES FOR CUTTING ELEMENTS, AND RELATED METHODS
A cutting element comprises a supporting substrate, and a cutting table attached to an end of the supporting substrate. The cutting table comprises inter-bonded diamond particles, and a thermally stable material within interstitial spaces between the inter-bonded diamond particles. The thermally stable material comprises a carbide precipitate having the general chemical formula, A.sub.3XZ.sub.n-1, where A comprises one or more of Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Tc, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Cd, Hf, Ta, W, Re, Os, Ir, Pt, Au, Hg, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Ac, Th, Pa, and U; X comprises one or more of Al, Ga, Sn, Be, Bi, Te, Sb, Se, As, Ge, Si, B, and P; Z comprises C; and n is greater than or equal to 0 and less than or equal to 0.75. A method of forming a cutting element, an earth-boring tool, a supporting substrate, and a method of forming a supporting substrate are also described.

A cutting element comprises a supporting substrate, and a cutting table attached to an end of the supporting substrate. A method of forming a cutting element, an earth-boring tool, a supporting substrate, and a method of forming a supporting substrate are also described.
CUTTING TOOL
A cutting tool includes a supporting body and a cBN or PCD cutting edge tip attached to the supporting body via a 5-150 ?m braze joint. The supporting body is cemented carbide having 3-25 wt % of a metallic binder, optionally up to 25 wt % of carbides or carbonitrides of one or more elements of group 4, 5, or 6, and the rest WC. The metallic binder includes at least 40 wt % Ni, and the braze joint has, in the order from the supporting body, a first layer of TiC situated next thereto, with an average thickness of 10-400 nm, a second layer, with an average thickness of 0.5-8 ?m, having in average at least 5 wt % metallic Ni, in average 25-60 wt % metallic Cu and in average 15-45 wt % metallic Ti, and a third layer, with an average thickness of 4-145 ?m, having metallic Ag and metallic Cu.
Method and Device for Retaining Position of a Consumable Core
A method and device for retaining position of a consumable core during composite article manufacturing is taught herein by inserting a consumable core having a consumable core body and a plurality of retention artifacts into a composite precursor hollow feature of a composite precursor structure. Then positioning the consumable core such that the plurality of retention artifacts projecting from the consumable core exterior surface at least partially engage with a substantially spatially replicate surface geometry in the composite precursor hollow feature. The consumable core is then consumed as a soluble infiltrant to form a composite article.
