Compositions incorporating silica fibers
Embodiments of the invention include articles incorporating fibrous fragments of mats of silica fibers and methods for producing such articles. The fiber mats may be formed via electrospinning of a sol gel produced with a silicon alkoxide reagent, such as tetraethyl ortho silicate, alcohol solvent, and an acid catalyst.
ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING METHODS FOR FORMING HIGH-TEMPERATURE COMPOSITE STRUCTURES AND RELATED STRUCTURES
Methods for fabricating high-temperature composite structures (e.g., structures comprising carbon-carbon composite materials or ceramic composite matrix (CMC) materials and configured for use at temperature at or exceeding about 2000 F. (1093 C.)) include forming precursor structures by additive manufacturing (AM) (e.g., 3D printing) with a filament drawn from a spool. The precursor structures are exposed to high temperatures to pyrolyze a precursor matric material of the initial 3D printed structure. A liquid resin is used to impregnate the pyrolyzed structure, to densify the structure into a near-net final shape. Use of expensive and time-consuming molds and post-processing machining may be avoided. Large, unitary, integrally formed parts conducive for use in high-temperature environments may be formed using the methods of the disclosure.
Filaments based on a coated core material
A filament containing a core material (CM) coated with a layer of shell material (SM), wherein the (CM) contains the components a) to c): a) 30 to 80% by volume, based on the total volume of the C) of at least one inorganic powder (IP), b) 20 to 70% by volume, based on the total volume of the CM of at least one binder (B) comprising component b1) b1) at least one polymer (P) and c) optionally at least one additive, wherein the at least one polymer (P) is a polyoxymethylene (POM) homopolymer, a POM copolymer or POM terpolymer and wherein at least some of the OH-end groups of the PO) homopolymer are capped, and the SM contains the components d) to f): d) 75 to 100% by volume, based on the total volume of the SM of at least one thermoplastic polymer, e) optionally at least one inorganic powder (IP), and f) optionally at least one additive, wherein the thickness of the layer of shell material is 0.05 to 0.5 mm.
SILICA NANOFIBER MATERIALS, ARTICLES INCLUDING SUCH MATERIALS, AND RELATED METHODS
A silica nanofiber material includes a flexible mat comprising a plurality of silica nanofibers. An electrical device may include an electrical component and the silica nanofiber material disposed over the electrical component. A method of forming a silica nanofiber material includes electrospinning a fluid comprising a silica precursor and a polymer to form electrospun fibers, removing at least a portion of the polymer from the electrospun fibers to form silica nanofibers, and annealing the silica nanofibers to bind the silica nanofibers together.
INORGANIC FIBER
An inorganic fiber containing a fiberization product of a compound comprising at least one alkaline earth silicate, at least one compound containing an element from group VII and/or IX of the periodic table, and optionally alumina and/or boria. The inclusion of a suitable amount of at least one compound containing an element from group VII and/or IX of the periodic table of elements to an alkaline-earth silicate inorganic fiber reduces fiber shrinkage, decreases biopersistence in physiological solutions, and enhances mechanical strength beyond that of alkaline earth silicate fibers without the presence of the at least one compound containing an element from group VII and/or IX. Also provided are methods of preparing the inorganic fiber and of thermally insulating articles using thermal insulation prepared from the inorganic fibers.
COMPLEX COMPOSITE PARTICLES AND METHODS
A complex composite particle is made of a coal dust and binder composite that is pyrolyzed. Constituent portions of the composite react together causing the particles to increase in density and reduce in size during pyrolyzation, yielding a particle suitable for use as a proppant or in a composite structure.
INORGANIC NANOFIBER AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SAME
Disclosed are an inorganic nanofiber characterized in that the average fiber diameter is 2 m or less, the average fiber length is 200 m or less, and the CV value of the fiber length is 0.7 or less; and a method of manufacturing the same. In the manufacturing method, an inorganic nanofiber sheet consisting of inorganic nanofibers having an average fiber diameter of 2 m or less is formed by electrospinning, and then, the inorganic nanofiber sheet is pressed using a press machine and crushed so that the average fiber length becomes 200 m or less, and the CV value of the fiber length becomes 0.7 or less.

The fiber mats may be formed via electrospinning of a sol gel produced with a silicon alkoxide reagent, such as tetraethyl ortho silicate, alcohol solvent, and an acid catalyst.
Part made from oxide/oxide composite material for 3-D reinforcing and method for manufacture of same
A part made of oxide/oxide composite material includes fiber reinforcement constituted by a plurality of warp yarn layers and of weft yarn layers interlinked by three-dimensional weaving, with the spaces present between the reinforcing yarns being filled with a refractory oxide matrix. The fiber reinforcement presents a weave selected from the following weaves: interlock; multi-plain; multi-satin; and multi-serge, with warp and weft thread counts lying in the range 4 yarns/cm to 20 yarns/cm. The fiber reinforcement also presents a fiber volume fraction lying in the range 40% to 51%.
