WEDGE AND PLUG TOOLING FOR PRE-CARBONIZATION COMPRESSION OF OXIDIZED PAN FIBER PREFORM
A shape forming tool for pre-carbonization compression of a fibrous preform is provided, comprising a female forming tool, a first plug, a second plug, and a wedge, each configured to be received by a die recess of the female forming tool. A first tapered surface of the wedge is configured to engage the first plug and the second tapered surface of the wedge is configured to engage the second plug. In response to the first tapered surface of the wedge engaging the first plug and the second tapered surface of the wedge engaging the second plug, the first plug and the second plug, respectively, are configured to move laterally towards opposing sides of the female forming tool and/or vertically toward a bottom side of the female forming tool to compress the fibrous preform into a shaped body.

A process for manufacturing a friction component made of composite material, includes the densification of a fibrous preform of carbon yarns by a matrix including at least pyrocarbon and at least one ZrO.sub.xC.sub.y phase, where 1≤x≤2 and 0≤y≤1, the matrix being formed by chemical vapor infiltration at least from a first gaseous precursor of pyrocarbon and a second gaseous precursor including zirconium, the second precursor being an alcohol or a C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 polyalcohol modified by linking the oxygen atom of at least one alcohol function to a group of formula —Zr—R.sub.3, the substituents R being identical or different, and R being selected from: —H, C.sub.1 to C.sub.5 carbon chains and halogen atoms.
LOCALIZED PARTICLE ADDITIONS TO REDUCE DEFECTS IN CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITES CAUSED BY COMPLEX GEOMETRY PREFORMING
A method of forming a ceramic matrix composite component includes forming a fiber preform, the fiber preform including a plurality of ceramic fiber plies, a non-reduced fiber region having an areal weight, and a reduced fiber region characterized by a reduced areal weight less than the areal weight of the non-reduced fiber region by at least 5 percent. The method further includes selectively applying ceramic particles to the reduced fiber region in such manner as to avoid applying the ceramic particles to the non-reduced fiber region, and subsequently densifying the preform.
THROUGH THICKNESS REINFORCEMENT
A method for making a ceramic matrix composite component includes densifying a fibrous preform of the component with a ceramic matrix to form an intermediate component; infiltrating a hole in the intermediate component with an infiltrate material comprising a solid and a metallic alloy whose reaction forms a carbide, silicide, boride or combination thereof, heating the infiltrate material to a temperature in excess of a melting point of the metallic alloy; and sequentially cooling regions of the hole starting from an interior end of the hole to the outer surface of the intermediate component to form a solidified through-thickness reinforcement element. The hole extends in a through-thickness direction and is open to an exterior surface of the intermediate component.

A method for densifying porous annular substrates by chemical vapor infiltration, includes providing a plurality of unit modules including a support tray on which substrates are stacked, the support tray including a gas intake opening extended by an injection tube disposed in an internal volume formed by the central passages of the stacked substrates, the injection tube including gas injection orifices opening into the internal volume, forming stacks of unit modules in the enclosure of a densification furnace and injecting, into the stacks of unit modules, a gas phase including a gas precursor of a matrix material to be deposited within the porosity of the substrates.
Carbon-coated Nickel-aluminum Nanocomposite, Preparation Method Therefor and Application Thereof
A nanocomposite has a core-shell structure with an outer shell and an inner core. The, outer shell is a graphitized carbon film, and the inner core contains nickel oxide and alumina, with a nickel oxide content of 59%-80%, an alumina content of 19%-40%, and a carbon content of not more than 1%, based on the total weight of the nanocomposite. The process for catalytic combustion of volatile organic compounds may utilize the nanocomposite as a catalyst.

An automated preparation method of a SiC.sub.f/SiC composite flame tube, comprising the following steps: preparing an interface layer for a SiC fiber by a chemical vapor infiltration process, and obtaining the SiC fiber with a continuous interface layer; laying a unidirectional tape on the SiC fiber with the continuous interface layer and winding the SiC fiber with the continuous interface layer to form and obtaining a preform of a net size molding according to a fiber volume and a fiber orientation obtained in a simulation calculation; and adopting a reactive melt infiltration process and the chemical vapor infiltration process successively for a densification and obtaining a high-density SiC.sub.f/SiC composite flame tube in a full intelligent way. The SiC.sub.f/SiC composite flame tube prepared by the present disclosure not only has a high temperature resistance, but also has a low thermal expansion coefficient, high thermal conductivity and high thermal shock resistance.

CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITE WITH INTERFACIAL COATING SYSTEM
A ceramic matrix composite includes a ceramic matrix, fibers embedded in the ceramic matrix, and an interfacial coating system on each of the fibers. The interfacial coating system includes alternating layers of boron nitride layers of individual thicknesses of about 50 nanometers to 200 nanometers and carbon layers of individual thicknesses of less than 5 nanometers.
