An excisional biopsy and delivery device may comprise one or more rotating, penetrating and cutting rod elements. The rod elements may be configured to advance from a stored and confined first position and rotate about an axis, while being simultaneously revolved about a central axis. The rod elements may then assume a second released and expanded configuration that is operative to cut around and surround target tissue. In this manner, the rod elements are operative to move through the surrounding tissue to create a volume of revolution and to sever and capture the target tissue contained within the volume of revolution from the surrounding tissue. The severed and captured volume of revolution containing the target issue may then be removed.

A transection device including a hollow tubular body extending from a proximal end to a distal end. A plurality of stabilizing members extend from the distal end of the tubular body and define a reduced diameter opening into a receiving chamber adjacent the distal end of the tubular body. A blade is positioned within the tubular body and moveable between an initial position within the tubular body to an extended position wherein at least a portion of the blade extends into the receiving chamber. A depressible member extends from the proximal end and is configured to move the blade between the initial position and the extended position. A compression member may be positioned between the plunger member and the blade.

A valve coupled to the first instrument controls fluid flow through the first channel. The valve has at least two positions and in one position, the impedance of fluid flow through the valve into the first channel (when the second instrument is not received in the first channel) is substantially the same as when the valve is the other position and the first channel partially blocked by the second instrument. In another aspect, a surgical system can include an outer member and the first instrument can be received within the outer member to define a second channel there between. The first instrument can include a visualization system and an illumination system.

The introducer configured for placement adjacent target tissue. A shaft operably coupled to the introducer is deployable from a distal end thereof and includes a proximal end for approximating the distal end of the shaft adjacent target tissue. The distal end of the shaft is movable from a non-expanded configuration to an expanded configuration for separating target tissue from neighboring tissue.

METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR REMOVING MATERIAL FROM WITHIN A MAMMALIAN CAVITY USING AN INSERTABLE ENDOSCOPIC INSTRUMENT

An endoscope for removing tissue at a surgical site includes an elongated tubular body insertable within a mammalian cavity of a patient. An instrument channel extends between a first opening at a distal end and a second opening at a proximal end of the tubular body and is sized and configured to receive a surgical cutting assembly that includes an aspiration channel configured to remove material entering the endoscope via a distal end of the surgical cutting assembly. A torque generation component configured to generate torque is positioned within the distal end and configured to provide the generated torque to a coupling component. The coupling component is positioned at the distal end of the elongated tubular member and configured to actuate a cutting component of the surgical cutting assembly responsive to actuation of the torque generation component.

The present invention relates to methods of removing a lesion from a patient. A method of removing a lesion from a patient includes positioning wire loops of a probe device relative to the lesion. The wire loops are simultaneously rotated and expanded to cut material from the lesion. Irrigation fluid is supplied, via the probe device, to irrigate the material cut from the lesion. The supplied irrigation fluid is aspirated, via the probe device, to facilitate removal of the material cut from the lesion.

Soft tissue cutting device and methods of use

Some embodiments provide a soft tissue device, such as a transverse carpal ligament cutting device having one or more balloons that are deflated when the device is in an inactive position and are inflated when the device is in an active position. A low-friction medical device includes a first link, a second link, and a tension member. The first link is coupled to an instrument shaft and a first guide path is defined in the first link. The second link is rotatable relative to the first link through an angular range. A distal end portion of the second link is rotatably coupled to a tool member. A curved guide path is defined within the second link between the tool member and the first guide path. A curved guide surface of the second link defines a portion of the second guide path. A first portion of the tension member is parallel to a centerline of the first guide path, and a second portion is coupled to the tool member. A third portion of the tension member between the first and second portions is in contact with the curved guide surface throughout a portion of the angular range.
