Apparatus for endoscopic procedures
A surgical instrument includes a first jaw defining a channel, a second jaw including an anvil plate, a staple cartridge, and a drive beam. The staple cartridge is received in the channel and includes a sled, a knife blade, a plurality of staple pushers, and a plurality of staples. The sled is movable into engagement with the staple pushers to eject the staples from the staple cartridge. The knife blade is secured to the sled and is movable between raised and lowered positions.
PLEURAL DRAINAGE SET AND PLEURAL DRAINAGE METHOD
A single use pleural drainage set for medical use, which allows drainage by all physicians of air (pneumothorax), blood (hemothorax) and all other liquids (hydrothorax) accumulated abnormally in the thoracic cavity (pleural space (I)).
SURGICAL STAPLING INSTRUMENT HAVING A RELEASABLE BUTTRESS MATERIAL
A surgical stapler including an anvil, a staple cartridge, and a buttress material removably retained to the anvil and/or staple cartridge. In various embodiments, the staple cartridge can include at least one staple removably stored therein which can, when deployed, or fired, therefrom, contact the buttress material and remove the buttress material from the anvil and/or staple cartridge. In at least one embodiment, the anvil can include at least one lip and/or groove configured to removably retain the buttress material to the anvil until deformable members extending from the surgical staple are bent by the anvil and are directed toward and contact the buttress material.
SURGICAL STAPLES COMPRISING HARDNESS VARIATIONS FOR IMPROVED FASTENING OF TISSUE
A surgical staple cartridge is disclosed comprising a plurality of staples removably stored within the surgical staple cartridge. The staples comprise staple legs which extend from a staple base portion. The staple legs comprise staple tips configured to pierce tissue and contact a corresponding forming pocket of an anvil of surgical stapling instrument. The staples further comprise zones having different hardnesses.
PROSTHETIC SUTURING DEVICE AND METHODS THEREOF
A cassette is disclosed for use in a prosthetic suturing device. The cassette has a base. The base has a pair of pivots, a pair of alignment tabs, and at least one retention latch. The cassette also has a cover coupled to the base. The cover has at least one retention latch. The cover also defines one or more ferrule holders. The cassette further has one or more needles guided by the base and the cover. A surgical suturing device is also disclosed for use with a cassette. The suturing device has a cassette receiver and one or more needle drivers, each needle driver having a needle receiver positioned within the cassette receiver.
Staple cartridge comprising a staple driver arrangement
A staple cartridge for use with a stapling device that has an actuator that is selectively actuatable in an axial direction and an anvil portion that is selectively movable between open and closed positions is disclosed. Various embodiments of the present invention include a cartridge body that movably supports first and second staple drivers. The staple drivers each support a staple thereon and serve to drive the staples into forming contact with the anvil upon actuation by the actuator. The various embodiments of the present invention enable the final formed heights of the staples to be varied so as to apply various clamping forces and pressures to soft tissue captured within the staples. In at least one embodiment, the staples can include crowns formed thereon which can be utilized to adjust or control the clamping force and/or pressure applied by the staples.
DYNAMIC ASPIRATION CATHETER AND METHODS
A distal aspiration catheter comprises catheter body having a central lumen and at least one luminal channel. An aspiration source is configured to attach to a proximal end/luer hub of the central lumen. Each luminal channel includes one mandrel and a distal portion of the mandrel extends into a distal portion in the central lumen. When the aspiration source is activated, a clot/emboli lodged in a blood vessel is partially ingested into the distal portion of the central lumen. The distal portion of the mandrel can move into the partially ingested clot to induce clot fatigue. The fatigued clot can be removed completely by a single pass of the distal aspiration catheter.
Reflectance-facilitated ultrasound treatment and monitoring
Apparatus is provided for ablating cardiac tissue of a subject. The apparatus comprises an inflatable element, configured to be transthoracically placed within a pericardial region of the subject and a reflection-facilitation element, configured to deliver a fluid to the pericardial region, such that a portion of the fluid is disposed within the inflatable element, and another portion of the fluid is disposed outside of the inflatable element and inside the pericardial region. The apparatus additionally comprises at least one ultrasound transducer, configured to be transcatheterally placed in a heart chamber of the subject, and to apply ultrasound energy such that at least a portion of the applied energy is reflected by the fluid. Other embodiments are also described.
Fastener cartridge assembly comprising a cam and driver arrangement
A fastener cartridge assembly that comprises a cartridge body, a proximal end, a distal end, a plurality of fastener cavities, a slot configured to receive a cutting member, a row of first fasteners, a row of second fasteners, a first fastener driver, a second fastener driver, and a sled is disclosed. The sled comprises a first ramp configured to lift said first fastener driver and said first fastener toward an anvil. The anvil and said first fastener driver are configured to cooperatively deform said first fastener to a first fired height. The sled further comprises a second ramp configured to lift said second fastener driver and said second fastener toward the anvil. The anvil and said second fastener driver are configured to cooperatively deform said second fastener to a second fired height. The second fired height is different than said first fired height.
ELECTRO-MECHANICAL SURGICAL DEVICE
An electromechanical surgical device includes a motor system configured to drive drive-shafts and a steering cable arrangement. A control system may be provided for controlling the motor system. A remote control unit may also be provided for controlling the motor system via the control system. Optical or Hall-effect devices, may be provided for determining the position of the elements of the surgical instrument based on the detected rotation of the drive-shafts. A memory unit stores a plurality of operating programs or algorithms, each corresponding to a type of surgical instrument attachable to the electro-mechanical surgical device. The control system reads or selects from the plurality of operating programs or algorithms, the operating program or algorithm corresponding to the type of surgical instrument attached to the electromechanical surgical device.
