SURGICAL ROD BENDER
20170281252 · 2017-10-05 ·

A rod bender for bending a surgical rod includes first and second arms. The first arm includes first and second engaging portions. The second arm includes third and fourth engaging portions. The rod bender is reconfigurable between a first configuration in which the second and fourth engaging portions of the respective first and second arms engage the surgical rod such that spreading of the first and third engaging portions of the respective first and second arms bends the surgical rod in a first orientation and a second configuration in which the first engaging portion of the first arm and the fourth engaging portion of the second arm engage the surgical rod such that spreading of the second engaging portion of the first arm and the third engaging portion of the second arm bends the surgical rod in a second orientation opposite to the first orientation.

Intramedullary nail assembly
09775655 · 2017-10-03 · ·

The present disclosure provides an intramedullary nail assembly comprising an intramedullary nail and an insert sleeve. The intramedullary nail has a nail longitudinal axis and comprises a cavity being accessible from a nail proximal end, the cavity being confined by a nail inner wall, the cavity having a cavity longitudinal axis. The nail inner wall is provided with a predominantly longitudinal groove and a predominantly transverse groove, the transverse groove and the longitudinal groove communicating with each other at a junction. The insert sleeve is configured to be received within the cavity and comprises a cam radially protruding from the insert sleeve and sized to mate with each of the longitudinal and transverse grooves such that the cam is displaceable within the longitudinal groove from a longitudinal groove proximal end to the junction and is further displaceable towards a terminal end of the transverse groove.

Knee spacer system with adjustable separator
09775595 · 2017-10-03 · ·

The invention relates to a knee spacer for temporary replacement of an artificial knee joint, whereby the knee spacer comprises a tibial component (11) and a separator (12), whereby the tibial component (11) comprises a running surface (14) by means of which the tibial component (11), in the patient-inserted state, can be placed against a femoral component (28) in mobile manner, and whereby the separator (12) comprises a contact surface (15) for placing on the tibia (22) and the contact surface (15) is adjustable at a variable distance from the running surface (14) of the tibial component (11). The invention also relates to a method for adapting a knee spacer to a treatment scenario, comprising a tibial component (11) and a separator (12), whereby the tibial component (11) comprises a running surface (14) for placing against a femoral component (28) in mobile manner, and the separator (12) comprises a contact surface (15) for placing on the tibia (22), whereby the method involves adjusting the distance between the contact surface (15) and the running surface (14). The invention also relates to the use of a knee spacer of this type as temporary place-holder in a knee of a patient.

Surgical ratchet tool, system and method
09775654 · 2017-10-03 · ·

A surgical ratchet tool and system along with associated methods are disclosed. The surgical ratchet tool can include a relatively simple encompassing member that included a pawl extending into the opening for directly contacting a nut during surgery. The ratchet tool and system can be used for various types of surgery in which easy sterilization and a reduced profile for a ratchet tool is desired. For example, the ratchet tool can be used during surgery for adjustment of a spinal implant, where manipulation of a nut located on a downtube connected to a screw and/or spinal rod is desired. The encompassing member and pawl can be constructed/molded as a single piece unitary structure. A first handle and possibly a second handle can extend from an outer periphery of the encompassing member.

A method of preparing a distal femur for a knee joint implant includes mounting a patient-specific bone engagement surface of a femoral alignment guide on a complementary surface of a distal femur of a patient. A plurality of alignment pins is inserted through a corresponding plurality of guiding bores of the femoral alignment guide into the distal femur. A cutting guide is mounted on first and second alignment pins of the plurality of alignment pins, and a first resection of the distal femur is made using the cutting guide while cutting through the femoral alignment guide.
