The slide of the outer sleeve (102, 202, 302, 402) on the surface of the inner probe (101, 201, 301, 401) can change the size and distribution of the ablation area of the inner probe (101, 201, 301, 401); the separable structure can form a channel between the outside of the body and the target area of treatment by means of the outer sleeve (102, 202, 302, 402) for biopsy, drug delivery, and hemostasis; the separable structure can be designed into a non-reusable structure for one-time use only to improve the safe usage of the ablation probe.
Backup latch release for surgical instrument
A surgical instrument includes a proximal control mechanism. The proximal control mechanism has an opening through which a resilient latch arm can be inserted to engage a locking surface of a fixed latch structure contained within the proximal control mechanism. The resilient latch arm is contained entirely within the proximal control mechanism when engaged. A release channel extends from an outer periphery of the proximal control mechanism to the resilient latch arm entrance opening. The release channel provides a passage through which a release tool can be inserted to engage the resilient latch arm and provides a fulcrum for the release tool where the release channel is joined to the outer periphery of the proximal control mechanism. The surgical instrument can be released by prying the resilient latch arm away from the locking surface of the fixed latch structure with the release tool used as a lever on the fulcrum.
Actuator apparatus for operating a surgical instrument
A coupler apparatus for coupling electrical signals between an actuator and an end effector is disclosed. The end effector is disposed at a distal end of an elongate articulated positioner and used to position the end effector for performing surgical operations. The articulated positioner has a central lumen and the apparatus includes an elongate body sized to be slidingly received within the central lumen of the articulated positioner, at least a portion of the body being operable to flex during movement of the articulated positioner. The apparatus also includes a plurality of electrical conductors extending through the body, and a plurality of proximal electrical contacts disposed at a proximal end of the body for removably connecting each of the electrical conductors to respective electrical signal lines at the actuator.
Electrosurgical robotic system having tool presence detection
A robotic system includes an electrosurgical generator; an electrosurgical instrument including an electrosurgical connector; and a robotic arm having an instrument drive unit coupled to the electrosurgical instrument. The instrument drive unit includes a drive unit housing having: an electrosurgical receptacle coupled to the electrosurgical generator and configured to engage the electrosurgical connector; an activation link configured to engage the electrosurgical connector; and a detection switch actuatable by the actuation link upon being engaged by the electrosurgical connector.
High-pressure steam-based surgical tool for cutting and hemostasis
The present disclosure relates to a surgical tool for cutting and hemostasis of biological tissues. The surgical tool includes a hollow blade comprising a cutting implement residing within a hollow cavity configured to provide high-pressure steam through an apical surface. The cutting implement can operate independently or in cooperation with the provided high-pressure steam. The surgical tool of the present disclosure applies a directionally-controlled, high-pressure steam flow to a tissue region of interest. A control unit provides temperature-controlled steam at a flow-rate determined in accordance with tissue type and intended procedure.
ARTHROSCOPIC DEVICES AND METHODS
A resecting probe includes a shaft assembly having an outer sleeve and an inner sleeve. The outer sleeve has an axial bore and an outer window in a distal side thereof, and the inner sleeve has an axial extraction channel and inner window in a distal side thereof. The inner sleeve is rotationally disposed in the axial bore of the outer sleeve to allow the inner sleeve window to be rotated in and out of alignment with the outer sleeve window, and the shaft assembly forms a flow aperture in a distal portion when the inner cutting window and the outer cutting window are out of alignment. An electrode is carried on the inner sleeve, and a motor drive is coupled to rotate the inner sleeve relative to the outer sleeve. A controller is coupled to the motor drive and controls rotation of the inner sleeve and can stop rotation of the inner sleeve in a stop position where the outer and inner windows are out of alignment, providing the flow aperture to allow cooling of fluid in a working space and cooling of the probe handpiece during use.
