Cryoprobe

A cryoprobe is used during surgery in a human body to remove unwanted tissue. The cryoprobe includes a first gas supply line and a second gas supply line for delivering a supply of cryogenic gas from at least adjacent a proximal end to at least adjacent a distal end of the cryoprobe. The cryoprobe further includes a first gas return line and a second gas return line for returning the supply of cryogenic gas from at least adjacent the distal end to at least adjacent the proximal end of the cryoprobe. At least a portion of the first gas supply line is received in the first gas return line. A transition portion having at least one internal cavity and an aperture from the at least one internal cavity to an exterior portion of the transition portion is also included in the cryoprobe. The transition portion is provided to facilitate at least the transfer of the cryogenic gas from the second gas return line to the first gas return line, so that the cryogenic gas can flow adjacent the first gas supply line on its way to the proximal end of the cryoprobe.

An electrocautery device and system include retractability and extension of a cauterizing tip without impacting or applying backpressure to the supporting electrical components inside the device. In some embodiments, a conductive rail is in constant contact with a spring contact electrically coupled to the power source as the cauterizing tip is retracted or extended from the main housing. Some embodiments include a vacuum system that draws fluid from the treatment site during operation. The fluid travels through a passageway that is sealed off from the electrical components by virtue of aspects of the device. Some embodiments include an ergonomic design and are lower cost by using membrane switch circuits instead of a printed circuit board.

A manipulable portion of a catheter system advances out of a lumen of a catheter sheath at a distal end of a shaft, which is also within the lumen of the catheter sheath. The catheter system causes different advancement and retraction trajectories of a manipulable portion out of and into the lumen based at least upon different relative movements between the catheter sheath and the shaft. A projection and a corresponding receiver may be used to control relative positioning of the catheter sheath and the shaft, as well as to control positioning of the manipulable portion. The catheter system may control metering rates of a control element coupled to the manipulable portion during advancement and retraction of the manipulable portion. A control element of the catheter system has varying amounts of length outside a distal end of the catheter sheath during advancement and retraction of the manipulable portion.

SURGICAL LASER SYSTEMS AND LASER DEVICES

A surgical laser system includes an array of laser diodes that are configured to output laser energy, a fiber bundle, a delivery fiber, and a tubular sheath. The fiber bundle includes a plurality of optical fibers and has a proximal end that is configured to receive laser energy from the array of laser diodes. The delivery fiber includes a proximal end that is configured to receive laser energy from a distal end of the fiber bundle. The tubular sheath defines a lumen, in which at least a portion of the delivery fiber is disposed. The tubular sheath is insertable into a working channel of an endoscope or a cystoscope. A distal end of the tubular sheath is configured to deliver laser energy discharged from the delivery fiber into a body of a patient.

A tool for use with a surgical robotic manipulator that comprises an energy applicator including a shaft extending along an axis between a proximal end and a distal end. The shaft has an axial-force receiving surface. A tool assembly comprises a support structure to support the energy applicator, an axial connector assembly arranged to engage and releasably lock the energy applicator to the support structure in a locked state, a drive system coupled to the support structure to rotatably drive the shaft of the energy applicator about the axis, a collet assembly cooperating with the axial connector assembly and configured to apply a force to the axial-force receiving surface of the energy applicator in the locked state, and a reference surface. The force includes an axial component directing the energy applicator proximally into continuous contact with the reference surface in the locked state.

Surgical end effector for applying electrosurgical energy to different electrodes on different time periods

An end effector is disclosed. The end effector includes a first jaw and a second jaw configured to move from a first position to a second position. The second jaw includes a channel and a cartridge removably coupled to the channel. A first electrode is configured to apply electrosurgical energy to a tissue and a second electrode is configured to apply electrosurgical energy to the tissue. In the second position a distance between the first electrode and the first jaw is greater than a distance between the second electrode and the first jaw. The first electrode is configured to apply electrosurgical energy to the tissue when the first and second jaws are moving from the first position to the second position, and the second electrode is configured to apply electrosurgical energy to the tissue in the second position.

Surgical system couplable with staple cartridge and radio frequency cartridge, and method of using same

A method is disclosed. The method includes delivering staples from a surgical staple cartridge of a surgical instrument to a first tissue during a first procedure; removing the surgical staple cartridge from the surgical instrument; and delivering radio-frequency energy from a radio-frequency cartridge of the surgical instrument to a second tissue during a second procedure.
