DEVICES AND METHODS FOR TREATMENT OF TUMORS USING ELECTROMAGNETIC SIGNAL
20230201582 · 2023-06-29 ·

Systems and methods for treating cancerous tumors (including glioblastoma multiforme (GBM)) with electrotherapy, such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) technology, as disclosed herein. One or more configurations can be generated based on a patients tumor characteristics. The selected configurations can be electrode configurations or settings for an electrical source coupled to the electrodes. The one or more configurations can be targeted for inhibiting cell growth process, such as to inhibit mitosis, immune suppression, or to inhibit DNA replication. Inhibition of cell growth processes can initiate death of the cancerous cells.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR USING A MULTI-PROBE INTEGRATED ELECTROTHERMAL MODULES (ETMS) DEVICE FOR TUMOR ABLATION

Systems and methods for tumor ablation with controlled precision of a temperature profile utilizing a tumor ablation probe device may include disposing a distal end of the tumor ablation probe device in a tissue, the distal end including a plurality of electrothermal modules (ETMs) on probe arm(s), each ETM including a first surface component electrically connected to a second surface component; supplying a first voltage of a first polarity or a second voltage of a second polarity to at least one ETM, and repeatedly alternating between the first polarity and the second polarity based on a time sequence cycle. When the first polarity is supplied, the ETM heats the first surface component and cools the second surface component, and when the second polarity is supplied, the ETM cools the first surface component and heats the second surface component. Each ETM and/or probe arm is configured for independent control.

A device for performing a surgical procedure includes an elongated shaft extending between a proximal end and a distal end. The shaft includes an outer surface and an inner surface. An expandable member is disposed at the distal end of the shaft. The expandable member is configured to receive inflation material. At least one electrode is disposed with the inflatable member. Methods of use are disclosed.

Dental and medical treatments and procedures

A method treating a root canal in a tooth by introducing into the pulp chamber of a tooth and pulsing a laser light into the fluid reservoir so as to disintegrate pulp within the root canal without generation of any significant heat in said liquid fluid so as to avoid elevating the temperature of any of the dentin, tooth, or other adjacent tissue more than about 5° C.

APPARATUS FOR DRIVING A SURGICAL END EFFECTOR

When surgical devices operate on tissue (e.g. cutting or ablating tissue), tissue and other debris is typically sucked away from the operating site along a suction pathway through the device. In some cases, this debris may accumulate at certain points within the device. This can lead to blockages forming in the suction pathway, which reduces the flow of debris through the device and hinders effective removal of debris from the operating site. The present invention addresses these issues by providing an apparatus which is configured to drive the end effector of a surgical instrument in an operational mode that causes tissue debris to be dislodged from the surgical instrument.

Communication control for a surgeon controlled secondary display and primary display

A tiered multi-display control scheme may provide various communication control options for a surgeon-controlled secondary display and primary operating room display. A powered surgical tool may be in operative communication with a local display and at least one main monitor within the operating room outside the sterile field for displaying multiple data and/or imaging sources. The local display may be interactable by the surgeon within the sterile field. The display outside the sterile field may show an image of an aspect of the laparoscopic scope and may contain superimposed other data streams from other devices besides the scope. The secondary display could be used to direct from its displayed content up onto the primary display or remove it from the display. The added or removed data streams may be originated from the secondary display, passed through the secondary display, or be networked with the secondary display.

In general, devices, systems, and methods for surgical device activation detection using current sensing are provided. In an exemplary embodiment, a surgical system includes a surgical pump, a detector, and a surgical device. The detector is configured to sense changes in electrical power in an AC power line from an AC power source to the surgical device to detect activation of the surgical device. In response to the detection activation, the pump can properly provide suction pressure to the surgical device to allow the surgical device to provide aspiration at a surgical site during performance of a surgical procedure.

Medical ablation system and method of use

A probe for ablating tissue comprises an electrosurgical working end configured to provide a first plasma about a first surface location and a second plasma about a second surface location, the first plasma having first ablation parameters and the second plasma having second ablation parameters. The probe has a working end with a thickness below 3 mm and produces a low temperature plasma.

Robotic system and method for removing a volume of material from a patient

A tool path generator utilizes a solid body model of a volume to generate a tool path for a manipulator to remove material of the volume with an energy applicator in a semi-autonomous mode. A material logger monitors movement of the energy applicator according to a cutting path taken by a practitioner in the manual mode, identifies material of the volume to which the energy applicator has been applied in the manual mode, and updates the solid body model based on the identified material. The tool path generator modifies the tool path based on the updated solid body model such that, for the semi-autonomous mode, the modified tool path accounts for the identified material of the volume to which the energy applicator has been applied in the manual mode.
