11202642 · 2021-12-21 · ·

Disclosed herein is a tool assembly for use with an energy applicator having a shaft extending along an axis between a proximal end and a distal end. The tool assembly comprises a support structure to support the energy applicator, and a connector assembly arranged to engage and releasably lock the energy applicator to the support structure in a locked state. A drive system is coupled to the support structure and is configured to rotatably drive the shaft of the energy applicator about the axis. The drive system comprises a counterweighted clutch assembly.

Laser system for surgical applications

Improved systems and methods for performing laser based treatment of hard and soft tissues, e.g., bone, skin, and connective tissue, are described. The system can feature a laser adapted to produce a peak output power significantly higher than the output power produced by conventional laser-based dental treatment systems. In some instances, the system features high definition imagers for real-time, on-axis visualization and spatial measurement of the surgical region, which can include rendering 3D images. In some implementations, the system is adapted to deliver a laser beam polarized to align with the collagen fibers of bone tissue, to enhance cutting performance. In some implementations, the system is adapted to image the treatment region with polarized light, which can enable improved visualization of nerves and other anatomical structures.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR TREATING CONNECTIVE TISSUE

A method and system of treating connective tissue to increase flexibility of the connective tissue or decrease tension in the connective tissue includes forming perforations in the connective tissue to at least 90% of the depth or thickness of the connective tissue and maintaining the perforations in the connective tissue. The method alters the tissue to enhance the fundamental mechanisms involved the immunology, biochemistry, and molecular genetics of the metabolism of the connective tissue.

MODULATING NERVES WITHIN BONE

Methods of using hardware (e.g., bone screws, anchors or other devices) previously inserted within the body to facilitate energy delivery are disclosed. The energy delivery (e.g., thermal energy) may be used for neuromodulation (such as stimulation or denervation), tissue heating and ablation, curing, and other applications in the spine and non-spine orthopedic locations.

Robot-assisted laser surgical system

A system for working biological tissue, the system comprising: a tool comprising a laser operable to perform at least one action of work; positioning means for positioning the tool relative to the biological tissue to perform the at least one action of work; a controller; storage storing electronic program instructions for controlling the controller; and an input means; wherein the controller is operable, under control of the electronic program instructions, to: receive input via the input means; process the input and, on the basis of the processing, control the positioning means and the tool to work the biological tissue.

Provided is a surgical saw for cutting a sternum comprising: a) a body, b) a handle attached to the body; c) a blade positioned in such way to cut the sternum when a user holds the handle, and d) a base below the blade configured to be positioned below the sternum, wherein the user places the base under the sternum and cuts the sternum with the blade.

MULTI-SHIELD SPINAL ACCESS SYSTEM

An access device for accessing an intervertebral disc having an outer shield comprising an access shield with a larger diameter (˜16-30 mm) that reaches from the skin down to the facet line, with an inner shield having a second smaller diameter (˜5-12 mm) extending past the access shield and reaches down to the disc level. This combines the benefits of the direct visual microsurgical/mini open approaches and the percutaneous, “ultra-MIS” techniques.

Systems and Methods for Musculoskeletal Tissue Treatment

A system and method for pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) tissue engineering enhances musculoskeletal tissue stimulation. A tissue engineering device may include both low and high pulse frequency signal generation components that may alternatively drive one or more coils to generate PEMFs. These PEMFs may be applied to bone tissue, tendons, ligaments, and/or cartilage. A prescribed treatment regimen using the tissue engineering device may include a first period of time where a first pulse frequency is used in treatment that supports tissue proliferation followed by a second period of time where a second pulse frequency (less than the first pulse frequency) is used in treatment that supports tissue differentiation. A treatment regimen may also include, with the frequency characteristic, applying a slew rate to the pulse characteristics that is on the order of around 30 to 100 Tesla per second to drive tissue differentiation in a targeted manner.

Systems For Ablating Tissue

An irrigated electrode assembly has a proximal portion with a proximal end and a distal portion with a distal end. The assembly includes a first conduit defining an irrigation channel and a second conduit, both of which extend from the proximal portion to the distal portion of the irrigated electrode assembly. A proximal and a distal emitter is located on the distal portion of the assembly with the distal emitter being positioned distally relative to the proximal emitter. A fluid irrigation port is defined by the proximal or distal emitter and is in fluid communication with the first conduit. An insulative spacer extends between a distal end of the proximal emitter and a proximal end of the distal emitter. An insulative body houses the first and second conduits and extends from the proximal portion of the irrigated electrode assembly to a proximal end of the proximal emitter.

Dental and medical treatments and procedures

A method treating a root canal in a tooth by introducing into the pulp chamber of a tooth and pulsing a laser light into the fluid reservoir so as to disintegrate pulp within the root canal without generation of any significant heat in said liquid fluid so as to avoid elevating the temperature of any of the dentin, tooth, or other adjacent tissue more than about 5° C.
