Displaying a virtual model of a planned instrument attachment to ensure correct selection of physical instrument attachment
A virtual model a planned instrument attachment can be provided to ensure correct selection of a physical instrument attachment. An XR headset controller can generate a shape and a pose of the virtual model of the planned instrument attachment based on predetermined information associated with the planned instrument attachment and based on a pose of an instrument relative to the XR headset. An XR headset can display the virtual model on a see-through display screen of the XR headset that is configured to allow at least a portion of a real-world scene to pass therethrough.
Navigation system for and method of tracking the position of a work target
Navigation system and method for tracking movement of a patient during surgery. Image data is acquired by imaging the patient with a base layer of a skin-based patient tracking apparatus secured to the patient's skin. The skin-based patient tracking apparatus includes a plurality of optical surgical tracking elements. A computer processor arrangement is adapted to implement a navigation routine. The patient position is registered to the image data. The movement of the patient is tracked based on movement of the plurality of optical surgical tracking elements. The movement of the patient's skin is tracked by determining positions of the optical surgical tracking elements both before and after a deformation of the skin-based patient tracking apparatus. Movement of the patient's skin results in corresponding movement of the surgical tracking elements to provide a dynamic reference frame for use in continuously tracking movement of a patient's skin during surgery.
APPARATUS FOR ORIENTATION DISPLAY AND ALIGNMENT IN PERCUTANEOUS DEVICES
An apparatus for determining alignment between a source device and a target device includes the source device, the target device, and a processing system. The source device includes a first spatially variant field generator for generating a first spatially variant electric field, and a second spatially variant field generator for generating a second spatially variant electric field. The second spatially variant electric field is angularly offset with respect to the first spatially variant electric field. The target device includes a sensor configured to detect a first signal from the first spatially variant electric field and a second signal from the second spatially variant electric field. The processing system is configured to determine alignment between the first source device and the target device based on the first and second signals from the first and second spatially variant electric fields by the target device.
Verifying proper withdrawal of catheter into sheath
A method includes, in a processor, receiving signals from (i) a first position sensor disposed on a shaft of a catheter, and (ii) a second position sensor disposed on a distal end of a sheath of the catheter. Based on the signals received from the first position sensor and the second position sensor, an event is detected in which an expandable distal-end assembly of the catheter is being withdrawn into the sheath while still at least partially expanded. A responsive action is initiated in response to detecting the event.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DETECTING SKIVING IN SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS
Systems, methods, and devices are disclosed for surgical instruments, systems, and methods for detecting skiving of a surgical instrument, such as an instrument used during a robotic or robot-assisted surgery. The embodiments disclosed herein may include one or more sensors adjacent to, coupled to, disposed on, or embedded into an instrument in order to measure deflection thereof during use that may indicate skiving of the instrument. A variety of sensors may be utilized, including strain gauges, resistance-based sensors, fiber optic cables, laser distance measurement units, ultrasonic distance measurement units, optical cable measurement units, etc. In some embodiments, multiple such sensors may be included in an instrument in order to measure magnitude and/or direction of deflection.
SYSTEM FOR PLANNING THE INTRODUCTION OF A NEEDLE IN A PATIENT'S BODY
The invention relates to a system for planning introduction of a needle in a patient's body, comprising: a needle guide configured to be coupled to a needle; a localization system configured for tracking the needle guide with respect to the patient's body, the localization system being coupled to a needle tracker attached to the needle guide and a reference marker adapted to be attached to the patient's body to determine a spatial position and orientation of the needle tracker relative to the reference marker; a processor configured for determining a virtual position and orientation of the needle with respect to the 3D image using localization data of the needle guide, thereby defining a virtual needle having said virtual position and orientation, detecting a part of the needle that has already been inserted into the patient's body as a trace in the 3D medical image, computing a distance between the virtual needle and the detected needle, and determining a representation of the computed distance; a display coupled to the processor for displaying a representation of the virtual needle and the representation of the computed distance between the virtual needle and the detected part of the needle.
Surgical guidance intersection display
A system and method for providing image guidance for placement of one or more medical devices at a target location. The system can determine one or more intersections between a medical device and an image region based at least in part on first emplacement data and second emplacement data. Using the determined intersections, the system can cause one or more displays to display perspective views of image guidance cues, including an intersection indicator in a virtual 3D space.
Enhanced ablation and visualization techniques for percutaneous surgical procedures
A medical instrument for enhancing diagnosis and treatment comprising a handle, an ablation probe extending from the handle, a catheter extending from the handle. The catheter defines a lumen and the ablation probe is located within the lumen of the catheter. A port in fluid communication with the lumen of the catheter is configured for connection to a vacuum or fluid source, and application of a vacuum or an injection of fluid creates a consistent zone of permittivity around the ablation probe.
Tracking a sensor that includes a ferrofluid
A system comprising: one or more field generating coils configured to generate a magnetic field; a sensor comprising a shell that contains a ferrofluid, the sensor configured to be introduced in proximity to the magnetic field, wherein the ferrofluid causes distortion of the magnetic field when the ferrofluid is in proximity to the magnetic field; and one or more field measuring coils configured to: measure a characteristic of the magnetic field when the ferrofluid is in proximity to the magnetic field; and provide, to a computing device, a signal representative of the measured characteristic of the magnetic field, wherein the computing device is configured to determine one or both of a position and an orientation of the sensor based on the measured characteristic of the magnetic field.
Atrial stretch measurement for atrial fibrillation prevention
A stretch-measurement probe includes an elongate outer sleeve, expansion feature associated with a distal portion of the outer sleeve, and an elongate inner rod disposed at least partially within the outer sleeve. The expansion feature is configured to allow a longitudinal distance between a proximal end of the outer sleeve and the distal end of the outer sleeve to be varied.
