The cationic styrene maleimide resin can include a reaction product of a styrene maleic anhydride copolymer and an amine compound. The product can include a fiber web and an at least partially cured resin composition. The resin composition, prior to curing, can include a polyamide-epihalohydrin resin, a cationic styrene maleimide resin, and a urea-formaldehyde resin. Process for the preparation of a reaction product of a cyclic urea and a multifunctional aldehyde

This invention relates to a process to make a reaction product UA of at least one multifunctional aldehyde A with at least one cyclic urea U, by mixing the at least one multifunctional aldehyde A with the at least one cyclic urea U in the presence of at least one alcohol R.sup.1OH, and optionally, at least one solvent that has no reactive groups which may react with aldehyde groups, CONH groups, or hydroxyl groups, to effect an addition reaction to obtain a solution of a product UA, where R.sup.1 is selected from the group consisting of linear, branched or cyclic alkyl groups having from one to twelve carbon atoms, to the reaction product obtained by this process, and to a method of use thereof as crosslinker for coating compositions.

Process for the preparation of a reaction product of a cyclic urea and a multifunctional aldehyde

This invention relates to a process to make a reaction product UA of at least one multifunctional aldehyde A with at least one cyclic urea U, by mixing the at least one multifunctional aldehyde A with the at least one cyclic urea U in the presence of at least one alcohol R.sup.1OH, and optionally, at least one solvent that has no reactive groups which may react with aldehyde groups, CONH groups, or hydroxyl groups, to effect an addition reaction to obtain a solution of a product UA, where R.sup.1 is selected from the group consisting of linear, branched or cyclic alkyl groups having from one to twelve carbon atoms, to the reaction product obtained by this process, and to a method of use thereof as crosslinker for coating compositions.

Modified amino resins

This invention relates to products H made by reaction of a cyclic alkyleneurea U, at least one multifunctional aldehyde A2, and at least one of (a) an aminoplast former M that is not the same as the cyclic alkyleneurea U, and (b) a monofunctional aldehyde A1, which product H is optionally etherified by reaction of at least a part of the hydroxyl groups formed by addition reaction of NH groups and aldehyde groups, with an alcohol having from one to ten carbon atoms, and wherein glyoxal is present in the at least one multifunctional aldehyde A2, to processes for their preparation, and to a method of use thereof in coating compositions.

Binding composition for several applications

The present invention relates to an aqueous binding composition containing a) a reducing sugar; b) ammonium sulphamate and/or sulphamate of an alkaline or alkaline-earth metal; c) a pH-adjusting agent selected from ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH), an organic and/or inorganic ammonium salt and/or an organic amine; and a resin (or pre-condensate) obtained by reaction of a polyaldehyde, a urea compound and at a lignin sulphonate and/or a condensation derivate thereof with a polyaldehyde, the resin being present in a percentage of at least 10% by weight on the dry weight of the composition. The binder may be efficiently used to bind cotton fibres, cellulose fibres, organic tissues, coal dust, natural and artificial inorganic fibres, thereby obtaining products with good mechanical properties.
