The present invention also provides a chrome-free retanned leather formed by the method.
Amine-imino dialcohol neutralizing agents for low volatile compound aqueous organic coating compositions and methods for using same
Paint, clear coat, stain, adhesive, or other aqueous formulations that contain at least one [(dimethylamino)alkyl]-imino-dialcohol and a alkyd emulsion, polymer latex or polyurethane dispersion binder. Also disclosed are methods for manufacture and use of these formulations. The [(dimethylamino)alkyl]-imino-dialcohols provide aqueous formulations having low odor and reduced volatile organic compounds (VOC). The [(dimethylamino)alkyl]-imino-dialcohols also aid in dispersing pigment and other solids so less co-dispersant is needed for aqueous paint or coating formulations.

TWO-COMPONENT SYSTEM FOR ELASTIC COATINGS
The present invention relates to a two-component system comprising a component A) comprising at least one polymeric polyol which has an OH content of 4.5 wt %, based on the total solids content of the polymeric polyol, and a component B) comprising at least one polyisocyanate which has a number average isocyanate group functionality of 4.0 to 10.0, based on the total solids content of the polyisocyanate, a fraction of 25 wt %, based on the total solids content of the polyisocyanate, of oligomers containing isocyanate groups and having a number-average molecular weight of 780 g/mol, and an isocyanurate group fraction of 5 mol % to 70 mol %, based on the total amount of isocyanurate groups and allophanate groups in the polyisocyanate. The invention further relates to a method for producing a coating on a substrate, to the coating obtainable by this method, and to the coated substrate.
STABLE ONE COMPONENT POLYURETHANE DISPERSIONS FOR VINYL WINDOWS
The present invention provides a stable, one-component polyurethane dispersion (PUD) based on ortho-phthalic based polyester polyols with a range of molecular weights. The stability is achieved by addition of from greater than about 1% to about 5% of a polycarbodiimide to the PUD. This chemistry provides coatings, adhesives, sealants, paints, primers, topcoats, and composites having excellent chemical resistance, especially with regard to aggressive detergent testing. The instant invention provides two-component performance with a one-component coating. The addition of a polycarbodiimide dispersion stabilizes a number of performance properties of the PUD over time such as, adhesion, detergent resistance, window cleaner resistance, 70% isopropyl alcohol resistance, pencil hardness, impact resistance, viscosity, pH, acid value, and pot life.
Chemically or environmentally responsive polymers with reversible mechanical properties
This invention provides compositions and methods for reversible ionic crosslinking in polymers, providing tunability of polymer mechanical properties. Some variations provide a polymer composition comprising: a polymer containing a plurality of ionic species disposed along the chain backbone of the polymer, wherein the plurality of ionic species has an ionic charge polarity that is negative or positive; a redox reagent; and a reversible crosslinking agent capable of changing from a first oxidation state to a second oxidation state when in the presence of the redox reagent. The different oxidation states are associated with different coordination numbers between the reversible crosslinking agent and the ionic species contained in the polymer. This difference provides reversible ionic crosslinking. The polymer may be selected from polyurethanes (including segmented and non-segmented polyurethanes), polyacrylates, or polyamides, for example. These polymers are useful for many commercial applications, including coatings and polymer parts.
FORMULATED WATERBORNE POLYURETHANE DISPERSION COMPOSITION FOR STABLE AMBIENT-DRIED FOAMS
Foamable waterborne dispersions which form stable flexible foams under ambient cure conditions are disclosed, said foamable waterborne dispersions comprising: a polyurethane polymer formed from one or more aliphatic or cycloaliphatic polyisocyanate and at least two different polymeric polyol components selected from polyether polyol, polyester polyol, and polycarbonate polyol; wherein the ambient cure conditions include a temperature of from 4 C. to 32 C., and a humidity of 0% relative humidity to 90% relative humidity. Also disclosed are the flexible foams produced from the foamable waterborne dispersions, as well as methods of providing a space filling layer or space filling volume adjacent to or on a surface, said methods comprising applying to said surface a foamed sample of the foamable waterborne dispersions, and allowing the foamed sample of foamable waterborne dispersion to dry under ambient conditions to yield a stable flexible foam.
