Impact protection material and method of making the same
The present invention provides new impact protection materials and the method of making the same. More specifically, the impact protection materials are polymer-based shear-thickening composite comprising a non-shear-thickening polymer matrix material and one or more shear-thickening materials. Preferably, the non-shear-thickening polymer matrix material is in an amount from approximately 5 weight percent to approximately 90 weight percent with the balance being one or more shear-thickening materials. The first type of the one or more shear-thickening materials is sol-gel based shear-thickening material in which small inorganic particles are connected in a gel network; the second type is polymer-based shear-thickening material in which polymer chains form network. Compared to the existing shear-thickening materials, the present shear-thickening materials have different molecular structure and formulation and possess properties of good impact protection and good stability.
Transparency repair system
The present invention provides a composition as well as a method for repairing deep scratches, gouges, etc. and which is particularly useful for aircraft and aerospace transparency repair. The composition is a blend of a polishable two-part, solvent-free, polyurethane coating composition for repairing the transparencies and which, after application, cures to a thermoset polyurethane. An optical grid is emplaced over the area to be repaired prior to applying the blend.

POLYURETHANE DISPERSION
In a polyurethane dispersion obtained by water-dispersing a polyurethane resin, the polyurethane resin is a reaction product obtained by reacting at least a polyisocyanate component with an active hydrogen group-containing component containing an active hydrogen compound having an anionic group, a ratio of the total moles of a urethane group and a urea group is 1.5 mol or more with respect to 1 kg of the polyurethane dispersion, and the carbonate ion concentration is 700 ppm or less with respect to the polyurethane dispersion.
Vegetable oil-modified, hydrophobic polyurethane dispersions
Aqueous hydrophobic polyurethane dispersions are made from urethane prepolymers derived from reacting constituents including at least one polyisocyanate, vegetable oil based saturated monoglycerides, non-isocyanate based urethane polyols prepared from polyamines and cyclic carbonates, at least one long-chain polymeric polyol or long-chain polyol from biorenewable resources, polyols with hydrophilic groups, optional polydimethysiloxane based polyols with hydroxyl functional groups terminated in one end and alkyl groups terminated in another end.
POLYMERIC MATERIALS WITH IMPROVED ENVIRONMENTAL DURABILITY
Polymer composite materials and methods of preparation are discussed. The composite material may comprise a polyurethane foam and a plurality of inorganic particles dispersed in the polyurethane foam. The composite material may have moisture movement properties, such that (a) a sample of the composite material having a length of 48 inches has a moisture movement of less than 0.15% along the length, and/or (b) a sample having a length of 6 inches has a moisture movement of less than 0.8% along the length, when submerged in 45° C. distilled water for 14 days.
