METHOD FOR SYNTHESIZING ALIPHATIC POLYESTER BLOCK COPOLYMER REGULATED BY CARBON MONOXIDE
A method for synthesizing an aliphatic polyester block copolymer regulated by carbon monoxide. The method uses an organic cobalt metal complex as a convertible catalyst and includes: first regulating an anionic ring-opening copolymerization reaction between an aliphatic acid anhydride and an epoxy compound; then using carbon monoxide as a conversion agent for conversion to obtain a catalyst having a new catalytic active site; and regulating a vinyl monomer to perform active free radical polymerization to obtain an aliphatic polyester block copolymer having a controllable structure. The described synthesis method uses a convertible catalyst and a conversion agent, combines two controllable polymerization reactions which have different but compatible mechanisms, and obtains a block copolymer by means of a “one-pot” reaction.

Curative
A curative for epoxidized plant-based oils and epoxidized natural rubber is created from the reaction between a naturally occurring polyfunctional acid and an epoxidized plant-based oil is disclosed. The curative may be used to produce at least one of six different materials, wherein each type of material may be configured as a thermosetting elastomer that is crosslinked with β-hydroxyester linkages. The materials may be configured as a leather-like material, a foam material, a molded elastomer, a coating, an adhesive, and/or a rigid or semi-rigid material. Illustrative articles made from any combination of the six materials may be recycled using a mechano-chemical process to de-crosslink the thermosetting elastomer.

Polyol polymers, methods of preparing such polymers, and coating compositions containing the same
A polyol polymer is obtained from reactants including: a) a non-aromatic epoxy functional compound that includes at least 30 weight % of the total solids weight of the reactants; and b) an aromatic mono-carboxylic acid functional compound, or anhydride thereof, that is substantially free of non-aromatic ethylenic unsaturation. The polyol polymer has ester linkages and hydroxyl functional groups. Further, if the reactants further include an aromatic polycarboxylic acid, the aromatic polycarboxylic acid makes up less than 15 weight % of the total solids weight of the reactants. A coating composition is also prepared with the polyol polymer.
