Poly(alkylene co-adipate terephthalate) prepared from recycled polyethylene terephthalate having low impurity levels
This disclosure relates to an aliphatic-aromatic copolyester of poly(butylene-co-adipate terephthalate) that is prepared from recycled polyethylene terephthalate in the presence of titanium catalyst and a phosphorous containing compound. The copolyester is contaminated with little or no ethylene glycol and/or isophthalic acid, which are artifacts of preparing the copolyester from recycled PET. Advantageously, because there is little or no contamination from ethylene glycol and/or isophthalic acid in the copolyester, there is essentially no depression in the material's melting temperature.
ALKYD RESIN COMPOSITIONS
The present invention relates to an alkyd resin composition comprising a. 1-60 wt % of an imide compound according to anyone of formulas Ia, Ib, Ic, Id or Ie wherein R1 is H or a C1-C20 optionally substituted hydrocarbon group; R2 and R5 are independently H, or a C1-C20 hydrocarbon group; R3 and R4 are independently H, or a C1-C20 hydrocarbon group; R6 is H or a methyl group; R7 and R8 are independently H, methyl or ethyl; b. 10-40 wt % of an alcohol having a number average hydroxy functionality ≧2.0; c. 30-70 wt % of fatty acids or vegetable oils; d. 0-50 wt % of a mono and/or polyfunctional compound capable of esterification, which compound is different from the compounds used in a, b and c; wherein the wt % is determined relative to the total of weight of compounds a, b, c and d.

Biocompatible phase invertible proteinaceous compositions and methods for making and using the same
Biocompatible phase invertible proteinaceous compositions and methods for making and using the same are provided. Phase invertible compositions in accordance with the invention are prepared by combining a liquid proteinaceous substrate and a liquid crosslinking composition, where the liquid crosslinking composition includes a macromolecular crosslinking agent. Also provided are kits for use in preparing the subject compositions. The subject compositions, kits and systems find use in a variety of different applications.
POLYESTERS
The present invention provides a polyester which is the reaction product of reactants comprising: (A) an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid comprising from 16 to 30 carbon atoms; (B) an aromatic carboxylic acid and/or anhydride; and (C) a polyol. The invention also provides a coating composition comprising the polyester, a method of making the coating composition and the use of at least 2 wt % of a linear aliphatic dicarboxylic acid comprising from 16 to 30 carbon atoms as a replacement for at least 2 wt % of an aromatic carboxylic acid and/or anhydride in a polyester composition. This use may improve the UV resistance and/or stability of the polyester composition.
CONJUGATE FOR TREATING MALARIA
A peptide-polymer conjugate is provided for use in treating malaria infections, and in particular terminal or drug resistant malaria infections. The conjugate is formed from a polymer to which a peptide having activity against a malaria parasite is co-valently attached. The peptide is a cyclic decapeptide from the closely-related group of tyrocidines, tryptocidines, phenycidines and gramicidin S, and the polymer is a hydrophilic and biocompatible polymer with a terminal thiol, such as poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP). The polymer chains can be decorated with a hydrophilic targeting ligand that specifically targets an epitope on red blood cells, and in particular red blood cells infected with a plasmodial parasite. A method for synthesising the peptide-polymer conjugate is also provided.
Flame-retardant, cross-linked polyhydroxyalkanoate materials
In an example, a flame-retardant, cross-linked polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) material includes a first PHA material that is cross-linked to a second PHA material via a phosphorus-based cross-linker.
