Porous compositions and related methods
Porous compositions such as flexible polymers with side chain porosity are generally provided. In some embodiments, the composition comprises a flexible polymer backbone and a plurality of rigid side chains. In some embodiments, the rigid side chains form pores. In some embodiments, the rigid side chains may comprise two or more [2.2.2] bicyclic cores (e.g., formed by a ring opening metathesis polymerization. The compounds and methods described herein may be useful in various applications including, for example, gas separation.

The present invention provides: a reaction injection molding liquid mixture comprising a norbornene-based monomer, a metathesis polymerization catalyst that includes tungsten as a center metal, an activator, and an ether compound represented by a formula (1), wherein R.sup.1 to R.sup.4 are independently an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, the reaction injection molding liquid mixture comprising the activator and the ether compound in a molar ratio (ether compound/activator) of 0.7/1 to 30/1; a method for producing a reaction injection molded product comprising a reaction injection molding step that includes subjecting the reaction injection molding liquid mixture according to any one of claims 1 to 4 to bulk polymerization inside a mold; a reaction injection molded product obtained using the method for producing a reaction injection molded product. Consequently, the present invention provides: a reaction injection molding liquid mixture that makes it possible to obtain a reaction injection molded product that has an excellent surface (surface state) and exhibits excellent strength while preventing a situation in which the resin remains on the surface of the mold when the resin is removed from the mold, a method for producing a reaction injection molded product using the same, and a reaction injection molded product obtained using the method. ##STR00001##

Formamide group-containing monomers and polymers made by polymerizing the monomers are provided. Also provided are methods of polymerizing the monomers and methods of synthesizing functionalized polymers by pre- and/or post-polymerization functionalization. The monomers are non-toxic and can generate highly reactive isocyanate and isonitrile precursors in a one-pot synthesis that enables the incorporation of complex functionalities into the side-chain of the polymers that are synthesized from the monomers.
NEAR INFRARED (NIR) LIGHT CONTROLLED RUTHENIUM CATALYZED OLEFIN METATHESIS
Exemplary methods, catalysts, catalyst compositions and systems are provided to activate a latent ruthenium olefin metathesis catalyst using a deep red to near infrared light (e.g., 600-800 nm) in conjunction with an osmium (II) photocatalyst that is directly excited to its triplet state via spin-forbidden excitation. An excited state single electron reduction of a latent solvent coordinated, cationic pre-catalyst is proposed as the operating mechanism for activation and photocontrol, as probed via in situ LED NMR kinetic studies and cyclic voltammetry. Excellent levels of spatiotemporal control can be found under light irradiation. NIR olefin metathesis exhibits improved light penetration through barriers over lower wavelengths of light, a control element that was deployed to mold dicyclopentadiene via Ring Opening Metathesis Polymerization (ROMP).
Resin composition and medical drug container using same
A medicine container which absorbs very little protein over time is manufactured using a resin composition including 50 to 99 wt % of a norbornene-based polymer, and 1 to 50 wt % of a hydrogenated styrene-based thermoplastic elastomer, a content of a low-molecular-weight component having a weight average molecular weight of 1000 or less in the resin composition being 3 wt % or less.
