This invention relates generally to olefin metathesis catalyst compounds, to the preparation of such compounds, compositions comprising such compounds, methods of using such compounds, articles of manufacture comprising such compounds, and the use of such compounds in the metathesis of olefins and olefin compounds. The invention has utility in the fields of catalysts, organic synthesis, polymer chemistry, and industrial and fine chemicals industry.
Method for the polymerization of cycloolefins by means of ring-opening metathesis
The present invention relates to a method for the polymerization of cycloolefins by ring-opening metathesis. The reaction is carried out in the presence of at least one particular catalyst, selected from the ruthenium alkylidene complexes comprising at least one 1-aryl-3-cycloalkyl-imidazolin-2-ylidene ligand and mixtures thereof. The invention also relates to a kit for implementing this method.
Modified resins and uses thereof
Modified thermoplastic hydrocarbon thermoplastic resins are provided, as well as methods of their manufacture and uses thereof in rubber compositions. The modified thermoplastic resins are modified by decreasing the relative quantity of the dimer, trimer, tetramer, and pentamer oligomers as compared to the corresponding unmodified thermoplastic resin polymers, resulting in a product that exhibits a greater shift in the glass transition temperature of the elastomer(s) used in tire formulations. This translates to better viscoelastic predictors of tire tread performance, such as wet grip and rolling resistance. The modified thermoplastic resins impart remarkable properties on various rubber compositions, such as tires, belts, hoses, brakes, and the like. Automobile tires incorporating the modified thermoplastic resins are shown to possess excellent results in balancing the properties of rolling resistance, tire wear, snow performance, and wet braking performance.
In-mold coating of ROMP polymers
The present invention relates to in-mold coating of a cyclic olefin polymer. More particularly, the present invention relates to methods and compositions for in-mold coating cyclic olefin polymers prepared by ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) reactions and the manufacture of polymer articles via ROMP. Polymer products produced via the metathesis reactions of the invention may be utilized for a wide range of materials and composite applications. The invention has utility in the fields of polymer and material chemistry and manufacture.
CYCLIC OLEFIN RING-OPENED POLYMER HYDRIDE, RESIN MOLDED ARTICLE, AND OPTICAL MEMBER
The present invention is a hydrogenated cycloolefin ring-opening polymer comprising a repeating unit derived from tetracyclododecene, and a repeating unit derived from an additional norbornene-based monomer, the hydrogenated cycloolefin ring-opening polymer having a racemo diad ratio of 65% or more with respect to the repeating unit derived from tetracyclododecene, the hydrogenated cycloolefin ring-opening polymer having a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 10,000 to 40,000, and a resin formed article obtained by forming the hydrogenated cycloolefin ring-opening polymer having a glass transition temperature of 140 to 165° C., a melt flow rate of 8 g/10 min or more as measured at a temperature of 280° C. under a load of 21.18 N, and a flexural strength of 60 MPa or more as measured by a flexural test at a test speed of 2 mm/min, and a resin formed article, and an optical member.
THREE-DIMENSIONAL INKJET PRINTING USING RING-OPENING METATHESIS POLYMERIZATION
Methods for fabricating three-dimensional objects by 3D-inkjet printing technology are provided. The methods utilize curable materials that polymerize via ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) for fabricating the object. Systems suitable for performing these methods and kits containing modeling material formulations usable in the methods are also provided.
Resin Composition and Pneumatic Tire Using Same
Provided are a rubber composition containing from 1 to 30 parts by mass of an acid-modified polyolefin and from 0.3 to 20 parts by mass of at least one type selected from the group consisting of terpene resins and petroleum resins per 100 parts by mass of a diene rubber; and a pneumatic tire using the same.
Adhesion promoter
Compositions useful for improving the adhesion of coating compositions, such as dielectric film-forming compositions, include a hydrolyzed poly(alkoxysilane). These compositions are useful in methods of improving the adhesion of coating compositions to a substrate.
METATHESIS POLYMERIZATION METHODS
The present disclosure is directed to methods of making a polymer, including exposing a reaction mixture including a strained cyclic unsaturated monomer and an organic initiator to a stimulus to provide an activated organic initiator, whereby the activated organic initiator is effective to polymerize the strained cyclic unsaturated monomer via a 4-membered carbocyclic intermediate to provide a polymer having constitutional units derived from the strained cyclic unsaturated monomer.
ELECTROLYTIC CELL COVERS COMPRISING A RESIN COMPOSITION POLYMERIZED WITH A GROUP 8 OLEFIN METATHESIS CATALYST
Articles of manufacture possessing corrosion resistance characteristics are described, in particular for use in the chlor-alkali and other industries. The articles are formed from a resin composition, e.g., a cyclic olefin composition, polymerized with a Group 8 olefin metathesis catalyst. In particular aspects, an electrolytic cell component, such as a cell cover for use in the electrolysis of brine, may be formed from the resin composition. Among other benefits, such articles provide improved corrosion resistance compared to articles molded from other resin compositions, such as fiberglass reinforced polyesters and vinyl esters, and two-component dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) resins comprising molybdenum or tungsten pre-catalysts.
