A surgical instrument has an end-effector located on the end of a rotatable shaft, the shaft projecting from a handle. A thumbwheel is provided at the proximal end of the handle, which controls the rotation of the shaft, and hence the rotational orientation of the end-effector. The end-effector is capable of grasping, cutting, and sealing and/or coagulating tissue, and one of the operations is controlled by a switch located on the upper surface of the proximal end of the handle. The switch is oriented on the handle to be generally above the thumbwheel, in a relative position to the thumbwheel so that both the thumbwheel and the switch may be activated by the user's thumb, without the user having to alter his grip on the handle. In one embodiment of the invention the switch is therefore vertically oriented above the thumbwheel.

Flexible tamping member

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for sealing a puncture or incision formed percutaneously in tissue separating two internal portions of the body of a living being with an anchor, a sealing plug and a filament connecting the anchor and sealing plug. The methods and apparatus provide for a compaction device or a tamping device that improves control of the amount of force exerted upon the sealing plug. Further, the compaction tube or tamping device can deform upon application of excessive compaction force, thereby reducing the possibility of damage to the sealing plug, anchor, or artery.

Arthroscopic devices and methods

A fluid management system includes a pump connectable to a fluid source. An inflow line removably connects to a cannula for delivering a fluid flow from the pump into a surgical site, such as a joint cavity. A flow pressure sensor is coupled to measure flow pressure in the inflow line and produce a measured pressure value, A controller is connected to the pump and the flow pressure sensor, and the controller maintains a pressure set point by controlling a pump speed based on a backpressure-adjusted pressure value calculated by subtracting a backpressure value selected from a backpressure table from the measured pressure value. The BAPV is monitored to determine whether the BAPV deviates outside an initial BAPV range, and corrective measure are taken should such deviations occur.

Tool for bone implant

A tool for a bone implant includes a sleeve and a transmission rod including a transmission member disposed on an end of a shaft. Another end of the shaft is located outside of the sleeve. The transmission member is received in the sleeve and includes a first compartment and a plurality of first teeth surrounding the first compartment. A drilling rod includes a second compartment and a plurality of second teeth surrounding the second compartment. A coupling portion is disposed between the second compartment and a bit. The coupling portion is coupled with the sleeve. The bit is located outside of the sleeve. Two magnets are disposed in the first and second compartments, respectively. Two same poles respectively of the two magnets face each other.

A surgical clip applier and methods for applying surgical clips to a vessel, duct, shunt, etc., during a surgical procedure are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a surgical clip applier is provided having a housing with a trigger movably coupled thereto and a shaft extending therefrom with opposed jaws formed on a distal end thereof. The trigger is adapted to advance a clip to position the clip between the jaws, and to move the jaws from an open position to a closed position to crimp the clip positioned therebetween. The surgical clip applier can include a variety of features to facilitate use of the device, including features to align a clip with the jaws, features to prevent unintentional migration of a clip, and features to prevent clip fallout during formation.

Pressure relief for a catheter balloon device

An inflation device for selectively inflating a balloon of a surgical instrument including a syringe, a connector, a mechanical pressure indicator, and a relief port. The syringe includes a plunger slidably disposed within a barrel. The connector fluidly connects an outlet of the syringe with a surgical instrument balloon to establish a closed inflation system between the syringe and an interior of the balloon. The mechanical pressure indicator is associated with the syringe and configured to transition from a non-alert state to an alert state when a pressure of the inflation system has reached a predetermined level. The relief port is associated with the mechanical pressure indicator and configured to relieve a pressure of the inflation system when the system at least reaches the predetermined level.

A handle connectable to a screw-type mechanical drive component for transmitting to the latter a first torque comprises first connection means, defining a constraint axis, for the connection of the handle to the mechanical drive component, a ring nut to which a second torque is manually applicable, support means of the ring nut for rotatably supporting the latter around an axis of rotation coinciding, in use, with the constraint axis, second means for connecting the ring nut to the support means, for connecting/disconnecting the ring nut and the support means in a mechanical and selective way, so that the ring nut is kinematically connected to the support means when rotated around the axis of rotation with a second torque lower than a threshold value and kinematically disconnected from the same upon exceeding such a threshold value.

DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS FOR LOCATING PRESSURE SENSITIVE CRITICAL STRUCTURES
20170319190 · 2017-11-09 ·

The present disclosure relates to devices, systems, and methods for controlling the pressure a sensor applies on the surface of tissue to facilitate locating underlying pressure sensitive critical structures. The laparoscopic device includes a handle and a shaft extending distally from the handle. A flexible member is slidably disposed within the shaft and movable between a retracted position and an extended position. A sensor is coupled to a distal end of the flexible member. The flexible member is configured to flex to limit an amount of pressure applied by the sensor to a tissue surface when the sensor is in contact with a tissue surface.

VESSEL SEALING AND DISSECTION WITH CONTROLLED GAP

A forceps includes one or more shafts having first and second jaw members at the distal end portions thereof. The jaw members are moveable from a position wherein the jaw members are spaced relative to one another to one or more approximated positions wherein the jaw members cooperate to grasp and/or seal tissue. A stop member is disposed on the first jaw member and complements a corresponding step feature defined within the second jaw member. The jaw members are tip biased at their distal surfaces such that when the jaw members move from the spaced position to a first approximated position, the distal surfaces cooperate to grasp tissue. The jaw members are further movable from the first approximated position to a second approximated position wherein the stop member bottoms out within the step feature and biases the distal surfaces to form a gap therebetween for sealing purposes.
