SURGICAL INSTRUMENT WITH DUAL MODE END EFFECTOR AND MODULAR CLAMP ARM ASSEMBLY
A first subassembly includes a body and an ultrasonic blade. A second subassembly is configured to removably couple with the first subassembly and includes a first clamp arm and a first clamp arm actuator. The first clamp arm is configured to be located on a first side of the longitudinal axis of the body, and the first clamp arm actuator is configured to be located on a second side of the longitudinal axis, when the second subassembly is coupled with the first subassembly. The third subassembly is similar to the second subassembly except that the second clamp arm of the third subassembly is configured to be located on the second side of the longitudinal axis of the body when the third subassembly is coupled with the first subassembly.
TIP FOR MULTIPLE BEAM TISSUE THERAPY
The invention provides a tip that permits therapeutic electromagnetic energy systems to deliver multiple beams of overlapping, partially overlapping, and non-overlapping electromagnetic energy in the treatment of tissue disorders and conditions. The tip finds use with laser systems, intense pulsed light systems, LED systems, radiofrequency systems, and microwave systems.
Eye protector for use with immobilization masks during radiotherapy
The present specification discloses a radiation therapy protective eye mask for covering a patient's eyes, with the radiation therapy protective eye mask being placed over the eyes and beneath an immobilization mask. The radiation therapy protective eye mask includes a radiation shielding layer configured to cover at least one eye when a patient is undergoing radiotherapy treatments. A first layer of material can be positioned between the radiation shielding layer and the eyes, to provide cushioning and barrier between the radiation shielding layer and the skin. The radiation therapy protective eye mask can include a concave portion over the eyes to permit opening and closing of the eyes. Further radiation shielding layer can include structural and/or surface features and contours to reflect at least some of the radiation. In this way, the present eye protector reduces the quantity of radiation incident on the eyes for reducing eye damage.
MEDICAL HYDROGEL HAVING RADIATION PROTECTION FUNCTION
A medical hydrogel is formed by in-situ crosslinking an aldehyde-terminated multi-arm star polyethylene glycol and a polyamino compound. The aldehyde group and the multi-arm star polyethylene glycol are linked by a chemical bond such as an ether bond, an amide bond, an ester bond, a urethane bond, an imine bond, or a urea bond. The molar ratio of the amino in the polyamino compound to the aldehyde group in the aldehyde-terminated multi-arm star polyethylene glycol is 0.4-4.4:1. The polyamino compound is polylysine or a mixture of polylysine and polyethylenimine in a molar ratio of 2-30:3.
Intra-oral device for protecting oral tissues during radiation treatment
An intra-oral device for positioning oral tissues during medical treatment, for example, radiation treatment. The device includes upper and lower dental arch members configured to engage the maxillary and mandibular teeth or edentulous arch(es) of a patient, respectively. Moldable material is maintained within channels formed in the dental arch members by partially extruding the material through keyways formed in the arch members during the bite mold process. The upper and lower dental arch members are operatively coupled to provide a dental arch assembly. A protective element to displace or depress a patients tongue is secured at a suitable working position with respect to the dental arch assembly via a threaded strut adjustably coupled between the protective element and a support structure disposed between the dental arch members.
Triggered treatment systems and methods
In various embodiments, a radiation therapy method can include loading a planning image of a target in a human. In addition, the position of the target can be monitored. A computation can be made of an occurrence of substantial alignment between the position of the target and the target of the planning image. Furthermore, after the computing, a beam of radiation is triggered to deliver a dosage to the target in a short period of time (e.g., less than a second).
LOCALIZED MAGNETIC FIELD GENERATOR
An apparatus for generating a magnetic field for tracking of an object can include a localized magnetic field generator that is configured to generate a magnetic field and to control the magnetic field in an area of interest and configured to control the magnetic field in a separate area. The separate area can be displaced from the area of interest and can include a magnetic field-disrupting component. The object can be located in the area of interest.
Lock-block shield device
Apparatus and techniques for blocking radiation in a medical environment are described. In one or more embodiments, a lock-block shield device includes a base that is configured to adhesively couple to an object associated with a patient. In some embodiments, the base includes a lock mechanism for securing a work piece that has a generally tubular shape. A shield that is configured to at least partially block transmission of radiation can be coupled to the base in a releasable manner. For example, a clasp is used to secure the base and shield together. In embodiments, a ball and socket joint couples the shield and base to permit, for example, the shield to pivot and articulate with respect to the base.
Method and apparatus to treat cardiopulmonary disease
Methods and devices for treating patients having cardiopulmonary disease such as cardiac arrhythmias, ventricular arrhythmias, pulmonary hypertension, or heart failure comprising a tracheal approach. The method includes ablating a deep cardiac plexus of a patient by advancing an treatment apparatus into a trachea of the patient, extending an ablative energy delivery element of the treatment apparatus through a wall of the trachea at a level of the trachea proximate a tracheal bifurcation, positioning the ablative energy delivery element at a target space between the trachea, an aorta and a pulmonary artery, and ablating, by the ablative energy delivery element, tissue within the target space to substantially disable the deep cardiac plexus.
