Tools and methods for expanding a precursor hole in a host material to receive a fixture. The precursor hole is enlarged by a rotary tool having helical flutes and interposed lands. The flutes have a negative rake angle. The lands each have a working edge that cuts the host material when the tool is rotated in a cutting direction, and that condenses the host material when the tool is rotated in a densifying direction. The body of the rotary tool has a stopper section that plugs the hole when a certain depth is reached. When the tool is used with a copious wash of irrigating fluid at or below the necessary depth, hydraulic pressure builds inside the precursor hole. The hydraulic pressure can be advantageously exploited in cutting mode to autograft a slurry of host material particles into the sidewalls of the hole and create an incipient densifying crust.

A device for use with a uterine tamponade balloon catheter apparatus, such as the Bakri postpartum hemorrhage balloon, is disclosed. The device comprises a stylet comprising a hub at its proximal end and an atraumatic tip at its distal end. The device is configured to be removably coupled to the tamponade balloon catheter apparatus to aid in the insertion and positioning of the tamponade balloon catheter within the uterine cavity, allowing the balloon to function as intended for the control and management of postpartum hemorrhage and uterine bleeding. The tamponade balloon catheter includes an echogenic element to aid in visualization by ultrasound during insertion and use. Methods of use of the device are also disclosed.

The system also includes an elongate hollow enlarging shaft adapted to be disposed over the elongate hollow introducing needle. An operative tissue-penetrating length of the elongate hollow introducing needle is exposed beyond a distal end of the elongate hollow enlarging shaft. The elongate hollow introducing needle can be removed in a proximal direction from the elongate hollow enlarging shaft. An arthroscopic port sheath is disposed over the elongate hollow enlarging shaft and an operative tissue-penetrating length of the elongate hollow enlarging shaft is exposed beyond a distal end of the arthroscopic port sheath. The elongate hollow enlarging shaft can be removed in a proximal direction from the arthroscopic port sheath.
