Surgical instrument sleeve
A surgical instrument may have a handle, a support sleeve, and an inner sleeve. Illustratively, the support sleeve may be configured to actuate relative to the inner sleeve to protect the inner sleeve before and after a surgical procedure and to expose a portion of the inner sleeve during the surgical procedure. In one or more embodiments, an application of a force to a distal end of the support sleeve may be configured to retract the support sleeve relative to the inner sleeve. Illustratively, a reduction of a force applied to the distal end of the support sleeve may be configured to extend the support sleeve relative to the inner sleeve.
Device status feedback for bipolar tissue spacer
A surgical instrument includes an end effector and a feedback system. The end effector includes a first jaw and a second jaw, wherein at least one of the first jaw and the second jaw is movable relative to the other one of the first jaw and the second jaw to transition the end effector during a closure stroke between an open configuration, a first approximated configuration, and a second approximated configuration. The feedback system includes an indicator, the indicator transitionable between a first indicator position, a second indicator position, and a third indicator position, wherein the indicator is in the first indicator position when the end effect is in the open configuration, wherein the indicator is in the second indicator position when the end effector is in the first approximated configuration, and wherein the indicator is in the third indicator position when the end effector is in the second approximated configuration.
Sheaths for needle delivery
A needle apparatus having a sheath with a protective hypotube insert and a method of making the needle sheath. An example needle apparatus includes a handle, a needle having a proximal end connected to the handle and a sheath. The sheath is configured to receive of the needle. The sheath includes a proximal end connected to the handle, a distal end, a lumen and the protective insert. The lumen passes from the proximal end to the distal end of the sheath. The protective insert is received within the lumen at the distal end of the sheath when force and/or heat are applied.
MULTI-USE LOADING UNIT
A cartridge assembly includes a channel and a removable assembly in releasable engagement with the channel. The removable assembly includes a cartridge body and a support plate. The cartridge body includes an engagement structure disposed adjacent a proximal end thereof. The support plate is configured to mechanically engage the cartridge body and includes an engagement structure disposed adjacent a proximal end thereof. The engagement structure of the cartridge body is configured for longitudinal alignment with the engagement structure of the support plate. The engagement structures of the cartridge body and the engagement structure of the support plate are configured to mechanically engage the engagement structure of the channel when the removable assembly is engaged with the channel.
ARM PROTECTOR KITS AND METHODS OF MAKING AND USING THE SAME
Arm protector kits are disclosed. Methods of making and using arm protector kits are also disclosed.
SURGICAL KNIFE SAFETY HANDLE HAVING USER OPERABLE LOCK
A surgical knife safety device having a handle, a blade connected to the handle, and a guard carried by the handle for sliding movement between a retracted position in which the blade is exposed for use, and an extended position for covering the sharp cutting edge of the blade. In the retracted position, an enlarged guard radius is provided at the distal end of the handle to allow improved handle control and blade orientation. The enlarged guard radius is positioned to allow the user to firmly grip a large distal handle portion which is preferably molded as a single piece with the blade holder, preventing unwanted blade or handle movement due to guard mechanism tolerances. A spring, such as leaf spring or a cantilever beam, and a pair of detents or slots are provided to fix the guard in the extended or retracted position and to provide resistance during movement between the two positions. Additionally, a pushback prevention mechanism, a user operable lock and a drop-force operable lock are provided to prevent accidental retraction of the guard from the fully extended and guarded position.
ENDOSCOPIC SURGICAL INSTRUMENT HAVING A RETRACTABLE CUTTING BLADE AND SURGICAL PROCEDURE USING SAME
An endoscopic surgical instrument includes a main body assembly, and a cannula having a lumen and formed with a slot. An inner tube, which houses a spring-biased retractable cutting blade assembly having a cutting blade, is mounted on one end of the main body assembly and extends axially therefrom. The tube is receivable within the lumen of the cannula, and may be particularly oriented within the cannula lumen such that the cutting blade may be caused to project from both the tube and the cannula slot. The inner tube has a bore in which the distal end of an endoscope may be received. The instrument may be locked in one position to allow the endoscope to engage the blade assembly and cause the cutting blade to project from the cannula slot during a tissue cutting procedure, or may be locked in another position wherein the cutting blade remains retracted.
PRESSURE ACTIVATED SURGICAL TOOL FOR USE IN SPINAL DECOMPRESSION PROCEDURES AND METHODS OF USING THE SAME
A surgical tool for use in a system for removing bone from vertebrae to relieve stenosis is provided. In one embodiment, the surgical tool includes a drill bit having a proximal end and a distal end, a drive shaft having a proximal rod portion and a distal tubular portion, the drill bit and the drive shaft configured to rotate about a horizontal axis in a clockwise direction; and an engagement system disposed between the drill bit and the drive shaft; wherein the engagement system is configured to selectively engage the drill bit to the drive shaft for powered rotation when the drill bit contacts a first material at a first predetermined resistance and to disengage the drill bit from the drive shaft when the drill bit engages a second material at a second predetermined resistance; and wherein the first predetermined resistance is greater than the second predetermined resistance.
Surgical instrument with fastener preload lock-out
A surgical instrument may include a handle and an elongated shaft extending distally from the handle. The surgical instrument may also include a fastener deployment system for deploying fasteners from the elongated shaft including a reciprocating driveshaft disposed within the elongated shaft. The fastener deployment system may include a follower disposed within the elongated shaft for displacing one or more fasteners within the elongated shaft towards a distal fastener deployment position. The surgical instrument may include a removable preload lock-out attached to the elongated shaft to prevent the follower from applying a preload to the fasteners.
Protective Cover for Medical Spike Products
A protective cover or sleeve for a medical spike product is provided. The protective cover includes a first panel having a lower edge, and a second panel having a lower edge, wherein the first panel and the second panel are connected at their lower edges, respectively. The first panel and the second panel are configured to be spaced apart to form a protective sleeve. The protective sleeve is configured to receive the medical spike product such that the first panel and the second panel protectively cover and enable aseptic handling of a spike end of the medical spike product and prevent the spike end from breaching a sterile barrier. The protective sleeve may be made from a paper-based material. A medical spike product assembly including the protective cover and a medical spike product inserted therein is also provided.
