Embolic medical devices
An occlusive device for occluding a target area can include an elongate member having opposing first and second side edges extending longitudinally along the member and a member width. The member can have a collapsed configuration in which the first and second side edges are curled toward each other about a longitudinal axis of the member. Further the member can have an expanded configuration in which the member form a series of loops and the first and second side edges uncurl to be spaced apart from each other.
Fastener cartridges including extensions having different configurations
A fastener cartridge can include, one, a cartridge body comprising a deck and a plurality of fastener cavities and, two, a plurality of fasteners positioned in the fastener cavities. The cartridge body can further comprise extensions extending from the deck having different sizes and/or configurations. The extensions can control the flow of tissue relative to the deck and/or support the fasteners as they are ejected from the fastener cavities.
Surgical end effectors
According to an aspect of the present disclosure, an end effector for use with a surgical device is provided. The end effector includes a drive assembly, a driver, a needle assembly and a biasing element. The driver is disposed in mechanical cooperation with the drive assembly. Rotation of the drive assembly in a first direction causes distal translation of the driver with respect to the drive assembly. The needle assembly is disposed in mechanical cooperation with the driver. Distal translation of the driver causes a corresponding distal translation of the needle assembly. The biasing element is disposed in mechanical cooperation with the needle assembly and is configured to bias the needle assembly proximally.
Surgical stapling assemblies
A method for deforming a staple comprising a base, a first staple leg, and a second staple leg, wherein the base, the first staple leg, and the second staple leg are positioned within a common plane prior to being deformed, the method comprising positioning the first staple leg within a first cup of a staple pocket, the first cup comprising a first inner surface, applying a first compressive force to the first staple leg to bend the first staple leg toward the base and the second staple leg, contacting the first inner surface with the end of the first staple leg to bend the end of the first staple leg toward a first side of the base, and deforming the first staple leg such that the end of the first staple leg crosses a mid-line of the staple defined between the first staple leg and the second staple leg.
Endoscopic surgical instrument having a retractable cutting blade and surgical procedure using same
An endoscopic surgical instrument includes a main body assembly, and a cannula having a lumen and formed with a slot. An inner tube, which houses a spring-biased retractable cutting blade assembly having a cutting blade, is mounted on one end of the main body assembly and extends axially therefrom. The tube is receivable within the lumen of the cannula, and may be particularly oriented within the cannula lumen such that the cutting blade may be caused to project from both the tube and the cannula slot. The inner tube has a bore in which the distal end of an endoscope may be received. The instrument may be locked in one position to allow the endoscope to engage the blade assembly and cause the cutting blade to project from the cannula slot during a tissue cutting procedure, or may be locked in another position wherein the cutting blade remains retracted.
MULTIFUNCTIONAL SURGICAL ACCESS SYSTEM
A tissue retractor comprising an outer ring, an inner ring, and a flexible, metal sheath extending therebetween is described. Embodiments of the inner ring comprise a flat or wedge-shaped conformation useful for insertion between muscle layers. Other embodiments of the inner ring include variable diameter inner rings, where the diameter can be adjusted as required and optionally locked into place, and reshapeable inner rings that permit a user to conform the inner ring to the anatomy of the patient when placing the inner ring.
DERMATOME BLADE UNIT, KIT OF SUCH UNITS, DERMATOME COMPRISING SUCH A UNIT, AND KIT OF PARTS OF SUCH DERMATOMES
A kit of replaceable dermatome blade units includes a first dermatome blade unit and a second dermatome blade unit, each dermatome blade unit comprising a blade support having connecting means for releasably attaching the dermatome blade unit to a handle and/or a dermatome head, and a dermatome blade movably attached to the blade support. For each dermatome blade unit a distance in a first direction normal to a main surface of the dermatome blade between the dermatome blade and the connecting means is defined as an attachment height. The attachment height of the first dermatome blade unit is larger than the attachment height of the second dermatome blade unit. A dermatome with such a blade unit, and a kit of parts of a dermatome with two replaceable dermatome heads.
Surgical robotic access system for irregularly shaped robotic actuators and associated robotic surgical instruments
The surgical robotic access system provides access for robotic instruments and/or actuators including the introduction, operation and withdrawal of such robotic manipulators into a body cavity without permitting the escape of pressurized fluid or gas. The surgical robotic access system also provides a multi-faceted range of movement without touching or effecting pressure on the opening in the patient's body cavity.
Protective sheath for use with a surgical instrument having an expandable body
A surgical kit includes a cannula assembly and a sheath. The cannula assembly includes a housing, an elongate shaft defining a lumen and extending from the housing, a fluid port adapted to be coupled to a fluid source, and an expandable body in fluid communication with the fluid port. The sheath is configured to be disposed over the expandable body of the cannula assembly to apply a compressive force to the expandable body. The sheath is transitionable between a contracted configuration and an expanded configuration.
Snap-fit cutting guard
A tissue guard includes a body defining an open proximal end, an open distal end, and a lumen extending through the body between the open proximal end and the open distal end. A lip extends radially outwardly from the open proximal end of the body, the lip including a finger extending from an exterior peripheral surface thereof. The finger includes a flange at a distal end thereof adapted to operably engage an underside of a proximal ring of an access device to secure the tissue guard therein.
