Passive safety intraosseous device

A portable and passive safety intraosseous device to allow for direct introduction of medications, etc., within the intermedullary space of a subject patient's bone or, if needed, the removal of certain substances from such a subject patient's bone. Such a device permits direct drilling and placement of a cannula within the subject bone with access external to the subject patient's skin, permitting, as well, connection of a tube for such introduction/removal purposes. The ability to provide a passive safety unit allows for facilitated utilization in, for instance, emergency situations with the entire device provided for utilization thereof. The device includes a drilling component with a permanently attached stylet and a removable cannula, a power supply for a single drilling operation, a mechanism to draw the stylet back into the drill component after use and disengagement from the cannula, and an automatic closure that activates with the separation of the cannula.

Tibial base plate and method for attaching a tibial base plate on a tibia

A tibial base plate for attaching to a resected surface at a proximal end of a tibia is provided. The tibial base plate includes a bridge, a pair of compartments and a stem. The bridge has a first contact surface sitting on the resected surface. The compartments are disposed at opposite sides of the bridge and extend in an anterior-posterior direction to form a notch to accommodate a tibial eminence. Each of the compartments has a second contact surface sitting on the resected surface. The stem is connected to the bridge and the compartments and inset into the proximal end of the tibia. The stem has an outer surface. The outer surface is canted towards the notch as insetting into the proximal end of the tibia. The stem is engaged with a cutting slot on the resected surface into the proximal end of the tibia.

The staple actuator is movable from a retracted position to an advanced position to move the staple pusher from its retracted position to its advanced position. The knife carrier is movable between a retracted position and an advanced position. The locking member is supported on the knife carrier. The locking member is configured to engage the staple actuator in its advanced position while engaging the knife carrier in its retracted position such that the locking member inhibits re-advancement of the knife carrier.

The access system includes an adjustable delivery handle assembly and an access catheter subassembly having a maneuverable access catheter configured to be delivered to desired site (e.g., within duodenum) to assist in treatment of a condition (e.g., drainage of a bile ducts via Endoscopic Ultrasound Guided Biliary Drainage (EUS-BD) techniques). The access catheter includes at least a distal section having an adjustable portion along a length thereof configured to transition to a pre-defined arcuate shape to provide directional control over the distal end of the catheter as it is navigated through a vessel (e.g., bile duct). The handle assembly includes additional elements configured to allow a clinician to maneuver and manipulate the distal end of the access catheter.
