SURFACE-MODIFIED PARTICLE MATERIAL AND SLURRY COMPOSITION

A particle material that has high dispersibility in a dispersion medium such as toluene having high hydrophobicity, and a slurry composition in which the particle material is used, are provided for solving the problem. A surface-modified particle material of the present invention includes: a particle material formed of an inorganic material; and a surface treatment agent formed of a silane compound having a first functional group that has any of C, N, and O atoms away over five or more atoms from Si to which an alkoxide is bound, the surface treatment agent allowing surface treatment of the particle material in such an amount that a degree of hydrophobicity becomes not less than 30%. Dispersibility is enhanced also in a dispersion medium having high hydrophobicity in a case where a functional group having a predetermined structure is introduced so as to impart predetermined or higher hydrophobicity.

The agent may further include hydroxyapatite particles, and the metal ions may be adsorbed also to the surface of the hydroxyapatite. The metal ions may be at least partially present in the form of at least one of an oxide of the metal, a hydroxide of the metal, and the elemental metal.

The present invention relates to a process for producing a particle dispersion comprising the steps of: a) providing a dispersion consisting of a solvent and solid core particles, b) providing a solution of a soluble, interfacially-active polymer having a molecular weight of more than 5 kDa, c) mixing said dispersion of solid core particles with said polymer solution, d) removing free polymer from the obtained mixture; wherein in step a) the solvent is selected from an organic solvent, a mixture of at least two organic solvents or a mixture of at least one organic solvent with water; wherein in step c), the amount of the soluble, interfacially-active polymer mixed with said dispersion of solid core particles exceeds the amount of polymer required to coat the surface of each of the solid core particles with a monolayer of the polymer; wherein step d) is repeated until the requirement described by the following formula is fulfilled:

Infrared fluorescent coatings

A coating composition includes: (i) a film-forming resin; (ii) an infrared reflective pigment; and (iii) an infrared fluorescent pigment or dye different from the infrared reflective pigment. A multi-layer coating including the coating composition, and a substrate at least partially coated with the coating composition is also disclosed. A method of detecting an article at least partially coated with the coating composition is also disclosed.
