Deformable and shape-able surgical lighting device and system
A conductor-less, shape-able, surgical lighting system and methods for use in surgical applications in which a medical clinician, once having established a surgical site, can shape the lighting system to selectively illuminate desired volumes of the surgical site. The system includes preselected lengths of an elongate light emitting member formed of a transparent elastomer matrix material having a glass transition temperature of lower than or substantially equal to room temperature to render the elongate light emitting member bendable and shape-able. Embedded in the transparent elastomer matrix material are particles of a transparent material having a refractive index different from a refractive index of the matrix material dispersed in the elastomer matrix material so that light coupled into the elongate light emitting member is scattered and refracted out of the elongate light emitting member along its length. One end of the elongate light emitting member is coupled with a light source.
Microscopy imaging device with advanced imaging properties
Systems, methods and devices are implemented for microscope imaging solutions. One embodiment of the present disclosure is directed toward an epifluorescence microscope. The microscope includes an image capture circuit including an array of optical sensor. An optical arrangement is configured to direct excitation light of less than about 1 mW to a target object in a field of view of that is at least 0.5 mm.sup.2 and to direct epi-fluorescence emission caused by the excitation light to the array of optical sensors. The optical arrangement and array of optical sensors are each sufficiently close to the target object to provide at least 2.5 μm resolution for an image of the field of view.
PROBE FOR LASER ABLATION, ILLUMINATION, AND VISCOELASTIC INJECTION
Microsurgical instruments having combined illumination, laser ablation, and viscoelastic injection functions. A surgical instrument includes a probe having a main lumen and a port at a distal end thereof. The probe may further include one or more optical fibers within the main lumen, the optical fibers configured to project laser light and illumination light. Laser light may be emitted from the distal end of the probe for disrupting an ocular tissue, while illumination light may be simultaneously emitted, axially or laterally, to provide enhanced visualization of the intraocular space during tissue disruptance. Upon disrupting the tissue, a viscoelastic fluid may be injected from the port to maintain an integrity of the intraocular space.
Operative communication of light
A surgical access assembly comprises a trocar and a surgical instrument. The trocar comprises a housing and an access tube extending distally from the housing. The housing comprises a hollow light emitter. The housing and the access tube define a lumen extending through the housing and the access tube. The hollow light emitter is configured to project light in the lumen. The surgical instrument comprises an end effector and a shaft extending proximally from the end effector. The shaft comprises an optical receiver positioned within reach of the light from the hollow light emitter. The shaft further comprises a light guide extending from the optical receiver along at least a portion of the shaft toward the end effector.
Instrument for optical tissue interrogation
A surgical system includes a light source, a sensor for detecting light, and a surgical device including an elongate shaft having a distal part positionable at a surgical working site within a body cavity. A first optical pathway transmits light from the light source to a distal part of the elongate shaft and onto tissue within the body cavity, and a second optical pathway receives light from tissue within the body cavity and transmits the received light to the sensor. A surgical drape, such as one covering a robotic manipulator arm housing components of the system, is positioned such that at least the first or second optical pathway includes an optically transmissive portion of the surgical drape.
ROBOT-ASSISTED LASER SURGICAL SYSTEM
A system for working biological tissue, the system comprising: a tool comprising a laser operable to perform at least one action of work; positioning means for positioning the tool relative to the biological tissue to perform the at least one action of work; a controller; storage storing electronic program instructions for controlling the controller; and an input means; wherein the controller is operable, under control of the electronic program instructions, to: receive input via the input means; process the input and, on the basis of the processing, control the positioning means and the tool to work the biological tissue.
Anterior to Psoas Instrumentation
In one embodiment, the present disclosure relates to an instrument adapted for use in an anterior to psoas spinal access procedure. The instrument includes a body, a first arm and a second arm. A first rod extends from the first arm at an angle thereto while a second rod extends from the second arm at an angle thereto. Each of the first rod and the second rod include a length with a first portion and a second portion, the first portion having a convex surface perimeter and the second portion having a perimeter different from the first portion and being convex in part. In some embodiments, a kit includes the instrument and a blade adapted for use in conjunction with the instrument in an anterior to psoas spinal access procedure.

The medical apparatus includes a display optical system disposed within the display housing, the display optical system comprising a plurality of lens elements disposed along an optical path. The display optical system is configured to receive images from the electronic display.
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR TREATMENT OF DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS AND PULMONARY EMBOLISM
An intravascular thrombus retraction device and method utilizing wires compressible into a compact form within a catheter and are self-expandable into a wire mesh web with fluid-penetrable openings in the wire mesh small enough to filter clot particles. A base of the wire mesh web is connected to a radially ring-shaped structure supporting and maintaining an opening in the base of the wire mesh and forming a thrombus capture volume. The ring-shaped structure is compressible into the catheter and is self-expandable when free of compressive forces within the catheter to open up into the open, expanded ring-shaped structure, maintaining the opening in the opening in the base of the wire mesh.
