Method of compressing tissue within a stapling device and simultaneously displaying of the location of the tissue within the jaws
A surgical system is disclosed including an end effector, a control circuit, a closure member, and a firing member. The end effector includes a first jaw, a second jaw, and an electrode. The first jaw is rotatable relative to the second jaw between an open position and a close position to capture tissue therebetween. The electrode is configured to conduct a sub-therapeutic RF current to the tissue. The control circuit is operably coupled to the electrode. The control circuit is configured to measure impedance of the tissue over time based on the sub-therapeutic RF current. The closure member is configured to move the first jaw towards the second jaw at a closure rate based on the impedance of the tissue. The firing member is configured to move within the end effectors towards a fired position at a firing rate based on the impedance of the tissue.
Instrument insertion system, method, and apparatus for performing medical procedures
In some embodiments, an insertion device for a single port robotic surgery apparatus includes a plurality of instrument channels positioned in an interior of a housing and extending along substantially an entire length of the housing, the plurality of instrument channels configured to removably house a plurality of surgical instruments, a plurality of openings in a rear exterior surface of the housing, the plurality of openings providing access to the plurality of instrument channels and configured to facilitate insertion of the plurality of surgical instruments into the plurality of instrument channels, and an illumination device supported at least partially at the rear exterior surface of the housing and positioned proximal to the plurality of openings, the illumination device configured to illuminate the openings to facilitate insertion of the plurality of instruments through the plurality of openings.
Lighting devices for handheld surgical instruments, holsters for surgical instruments with lighting devices and kits containing surgical instruments and lighting devices
Lighting devices are disclosed for use with handheld surgical instruments, along with holsters for supporting surgical instruments with lighting devices thereon and kits containing surgical instruments and lighting devices.
Systems and methods for discrimination of tissue targets
Systems for and methods for detecting samples and other compounds of interest are disclosed herein. The system can include an illumination source that is configured to emit light in a variety of different wavelength bands, an optical filter, a camera chip, and an optical path configured to direct the light emitted by the first illumination source at a target and direct the light reflected from the target to the at least one camera chip. The illumination source and the optical filter are transitionable between a first tuning state corresponding to a target tissue and a second tuning state corresponding to a background tissue. The system can be configured to record images at the different tuning states and generate a score image corresponding to the target tissue based on the recorded images.
Robotic-assisted navigation and control for airway management procedures, assemblies and systems
Airway management methods, devices, assemblies and systems. Methods, devices, assemblies and systems may include robotic movement and control of an intubation tube introducer or guide, and may include utilizing image data from one or more image sensors. The methods, devices, assemblies and systems may optionally be used in endotracheal intubation procedures.
ATRIAL STRETCH MEASUREMENT FOR ATRIAL FIBRILLATION PREVENTION
A stretch-measurement probe includes an elongate outer sleeve, expansion feature associated with a distal portion of the outer sleeve, and an elongate inner rod disposed at least partially within the outer sleeve. The expansion feature is configured to allow a longitudinal distance between a proximal end of the outer sleeve and the distal end of the outer sleeve to be varied.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MEDICAL STAPLING
Certain aspects relate to systems and techniques for articulating medical instruments. In one aspect, the instrument includes a wrist having at least two degrees of freedom of movement, and an end effector coupled to the wrist. The end effector can include an upper jaw, a lower jaw, and a firing mechanism configured to form staples in tissue. Actuation of the firing mechanism can be decoupled from the movement of the wrist in the at least two degrees of freedom.
MULTIPLE-FIRING SUTURE FIXATION DEVICE AND METHODS FOR USING AND MANUFACTURING SAME
A multiple-firing clip device comprises a shaft comprising an exterior surface, an interior receiving therein suture fixation clips, and a distal end opening shaped to eject a suture fixation clip therefrom. The shaft defines a lateral opening and a distal shaft portion between the lateral opening and the distal end opening. A shuttle moves on the shaft and comprises a shuttle body, a snare having a distal snare portion, and a snare extension slide movable from the shuttle body along a given extent defining a slide distance and a distal end. The shuttle extends at least the distal snare portion distally through the lateral opening from the environment into the interior, through the distal shaft portion, and through the distal end opening along a length that is at least equal to the slide distance when the snare extension slide moves to the distal end of the given extent.
HAND-HELD, ROBOTIC-ASSISTED ENDOSCOPE
A compact, hand-held, robotic assisted endoscopic system configured to derive the position and/or orientation CamPose of a distal part of a single-use portion relative to coordinates HandPose of a reusable portion of an endoscope and display juxtaposed images of an object such a patient's organ being diagnosed or treated in a medical procedure with the endoscope and the distal part of the endoscope, and to provide guidance to the system user with display of images such as prior images of the object, standardized images of the object of tutorial images related to the medical procedure.
SURGICAL EQUIPMENT MONITORING
Methods, systems, and apparatus for surgical equipment monitoring are disclosed. In some embodiments, an electronic health records database and a database of surgical tools is provided. At least one sensor and at least one surgical tool are used before, during, or after a surgical procedure. The at least one sensor associated with the at least one surgical tool is monitored for at least one parameter. The monitored data is compared to the expected value of that parameter for the current step in the surgical procedure from the surgical tools database. In response to determining a potential surgical complication, the system generates a notification indicating the potential surgical complication.
