Methods and systems for performing navigation-assisted medical procedures

Systems and methods are described for performing navigation-assisted medical procedures such as biopsies, surgeries and pathology procedures by obtaining location information of an item of interest located within at least a portion of a subject; sensing position information of a moveable device; determining a relative position of the moveable device to the item of interest using the location information of the item of interest and the position information of the moveable device; and providing feedback based on the relative position of the moveable device to the item of interest that can be used to change the relative position of the moveable device to the item of interest.

An implantable medical device for connecting tissue layers, such as connecting tubular tissues to create an anastomosis, includes a single elongate member and a covering material. The devices provided may also be used for other purposes including, but not limited to, partially or fully occluding openings in tissue, temporarily or permanently holding generally planar layers of tissue together, aneurysm repair, and the like.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR NAVIGATION AND VISUALIZATION
20220117670 · 2022-04-21 ·

Systems and methods for visualization of a surgical site are disclosed. An imaging device provides image data of the surgical site. A computing device detects, in the image data, at least one obstruction. The computing device filters the image data to remove the at least one obstruction by being configured to alter pixels related to the at least one obstruction based on at least one of (i) one or more buffered frames and (ii) one or more pixels adjacent to the pixels related to the at least one obstruction. The computing device generates an output from the filtered image data. A display device presents the output for visualization of the surgical site.

METHOD FOR IDENTIFYING A SITE FOR SURGICAL REMOVAL
20230301743 · 2023-09-28 ·

A method for marking a biopsy site after a biopsy has been performed includes the steps of placing a marker in the form of a semi-permeable membrane at the biopsy site so that the marker can be found at a later time, inserting a needle into the marker at the later time which is preferably immediately before a planned surgical resection of the biopsy site, and injecting a dye directly into the marker to color the marker. The semi-permeable qualities of the marker facilitate the slow egress of dye into tissue that is immediately adjacent the marker, enlarging the footprint of the marker. The semi-permeable membrane includes a high percentage of water after reaching osmotic equilibrium, rendering the marker highly visible under ultrasound imaging. The semi-permeable membrane may take the form of a fully or partially dehydrated hydrogel.

Systems and methods for pedicle screw stabilization of spinal vertebrae

The present application is directed to various spinal stabilization systems. The systems can include one or more guiding elements attached to screw members to assist in guiding rod implants and tools to desired locations within a patient. The guiding elements can include a plurality of wires, blades, or tabs. The guiding elements can be capable of criss-crossing or intersecting at or near an incision, such that only a single incision may be needed to perform a surgery. The guiding elements can also include telescoping features that allow the height of the guiding elements to be adjusted in use, thereby allowing multiple telescoping guiding elements to be used with the same incision.

Tissue removal device with adjustable delivery sleeve for neurosurgical and spinal surgery applications

A tissue cutting device is disclosed and described. The device includes a handpiece and an outer cannula in which a reciprocating inner cannula is disposed. A delivery sleeve may be selectively provided that is configured to be disposed about the outer cannula for delivery of a variety of devices.

Radiofrequency detection and identification of pressure sensing catheters

A charger for charging a plurality of pressure sensing catheters is provided. The charger has a plurality of charging ports of which a first charging port and a second charging port receives a first connector and a second connector respectively. The first and second connectors each have a first and second radiofrequency identification tags respectively, having information indicative of identifiable information of a first and second pressure sensing catheters respectively. The charger has a plurality of antennas, of which a first antenna and a second antenna can be positioned proximate to the first charging port, and second charging port respectively. When the first connector is inserted into the first charging port, the first radiofrequency identification tag is guided to a predetermined orientation with respect to the first antenna to minimize a spacing therebetween, and to maximize absorption of radiofrequency energy therebetween.

Systems and methods for medical procedure confirmation

A method comprises advancing a medical instrument and a catheter toward a target tissue within a patient anatomy. The instrument includes a distal sheath marker and is slidably received within the catheter. The distal sheath marker includes a channel and an identification feature. A portion of the instrument is slidably received within the channel. The method further comprises depositing the distal sheath marker at a location at or near the target. The distal sheath marker indicates a farthest advancement point of the instrument within the patient anatomy. The method further comprises: after depositing the distal sheath marker, withdrawing the instrument away from the target; determining an orientation of the distal sheath marker based on the identification feature; and, after withdrawing the instrument, using the location and orientation of the deposited distal sheath marker to determine a trajectory of a distal end of the instrument at or near the target.

Biological tissue position location and marking

Methods of performing surgical operations and associated devices are disclosed. An example method may include locating a first position on a first surface of a biological tissue; locating a second position on a second opposing surface of the biological tissue, the second position corresponding to the first position; and marking the second position on the second surface. The second surface may be generally opposite the first surface. An example method may include, after marking the second position, performing a therapeutic procedure on the biological tissue in the vicinity of the second position.
