Surgical navigation system providing attachment metrics
A system and method for providing enhanced information to a surgeon is described. A three-dimensional reconstruction of a patient's anatomical structure selected for surgery and a representation of a surgical treatment apparatus are rendered on a display device. At least one attachment metric for a proposed attachment between the surgical treatment apparatus and the patient's anatomical structure is calculated using the three-dimensional position of the surgical treatment apparatus relative to the patient's anatomical structure. And, an indication of the attachment metric is rendered on the display device.
Technique for providing user guidance in surgical navigation
A technique of providing user guidance for surgical navigation is provided. A method implementation of the technique includes obtaining a predetermined spatial relationship between an optical tracking pattern and a through-hole extending through an implant, obtaining image data of the optical tracking pattern acquired by an imaging unit attached to a surgical instrument, obtaining a spatial relationship between the surgical instrument and the imaging unit at a point in time when the image data have been acquired, determining a spatial relationship between the surgical instrument and the through-hole, obtaining a plurality of predefined spatial relationships between the surgical instrument and the through-hole, and triggering simultaneous display of an indication of the plurality of predefined spatial relationships and an indication of the spatial relationship between the surgical instrument and the through-hole.
System and methods for correcting image data of distinct images and generating and stereoscopic three-dimensional images
An optical imaging system for imaging a target during a medical procedure, the optical imaging system involving a first camera for capturing a first image of the target, a second wide-field camera for capturing a second image of the target, at least one optional path folding mirror disposed in an optical path between the target and a lens of the second camera, and a processor for receiving the first image and the second image, the processor configured to apply an image transform to one of the first image and the second wide-field image and combine the transformed image with the other one of the images to produce a stereoscopic image of the target.
NAVIGATION METHOD FOR POSITIONING A MEDICAL ROBOT
The invention relates to an optical navigation system for determining the position of a patient's anatomy of interest. The system comprises a locating device having at least two optical sensors and a patient reference having at least three optical markers. The system also comprises a reflecting device. When the line of sight between the patient reference and an optical sensor is intersected by an obstacle, the optical sensors are configured to measure, for each optical marker of the patient reference, a quantity representing the position of said optical marker in the frame of reference of the locating device from optical radiation originating from said optical marker and having a path reflected by the reflecting device to each optical sensor.
HYBRID MULTI-CAMERA TRACKING FOR COMPUTER-GUIDED SURGICAL NAVIGATION
The invention relates to a camera system for surgical navigation systems including a plurality of cameras mounted in a room. At least three cameras are mounted in the room which are operated in at least two different modes. In the first mode at least a subset of the cameras is operated to determine the position of markers and in a second mode at least a subset of the cameras is operated to determine the position of surfaces of the room.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SPATIAL POSITIONING OF MAGNETOMETERS
A system and a method for spatial positioning of magnetometers. Said system includes: magnetometers, a magnetometer support, first positioning markers, a photogrammetry system, and a controller. The first positioning markers are a non-rotationally-symmetrical pattern. The photogrammetry system includes photographing devices configured to photograph, at at least two of a plurality of photographing sites, first image data of the first positioning markers by means of one or more photographing devices. The controller is configured to receive data of the first image photographed by the photographing devices, calculate spatial positions of the first positioning markers on the basis of pre-obtained system parameters and the first image data, and then calculate spatial positions and spatial orientations of the magnetometers.
PATIENT-SPECIFIC REGISTRATION JIG AND ASSOCIATED METHOD FOR REGISTERING AN ORTHOPAEDIC SURGICAL INSTRUMENT TO A PATIENT
A patient-specific registration jig for registering an orthopaedic surgical instrument with a bony anatomy of a patient includes a head and an adaptor coupled to the head. The head includes a patient-specific contact surface configured to contact a portion of the patient's bony anatomy such that the head can be coupled to the patient's bony anatomy in a unique position. The adaptor includes an elongated shank having a first end coupled to the head and a second end and an adaptor end attached to the second end of the elongated shank. The adaptor end is configured to be received by a clutch of the orthopaedic surgical instrument. A method for registering the orthopaedic surgical instrument using the patient-specific registration jig is also disclosed.
ON-BOARD TOOL TRACKING SYSTEM AND METHODS OF COMPUTER ASSISTED SURGERY
A number of improvements are provided relating to computer aided surgery utilizing an on tool tracking system. The various improvements relate generally to both the methods used during computer aided surgery and the devices used during such procedures. Other improvements relate to the structure of the tools used during a procedure and how the tools can be controlled using the OTT device. Still other improvements relate to methods of providing feedback during a procedure to improve either the efficiency or quality, or both, for a procedure including the rate of and type of data processed depending upon a CAS mode.
METHOD OF PERFORMING CRYONEUROLYSIS
Provided are devices and methods for anesthetizing a patient undergoing surgery, and/or pain block procedures. In certain embodiments the disclosure provides a curved cryoneurolysis needle. In some forms, the methods include inserting at least one cryoneurolysis needle into a target region of the patient, and cooling the cryo-needle to inhibit the target intercostal nerve.
Surgical drill
This invention is directed to devices and methods for surgical access to the body, and particularly to surgical drills for accessing a body cavity and methods therefor. In general, a surgical drill is utilized to gain access to a body cavity or part, such as where bone and/or other hard tissues need to be pierced. For example, the skull and other bones with internal cavities may require surgical access to treat body portions contained within the bone. Further in general, it may be generally desirable to create access holes or openings which may be as small as possible and at a particular direction and/or trajectory. In this manner the access hole or opening may be utilized to guide another device, such as a treatment device, to a particular target along the established trajectory of the access hole or opening.
