Liquid crystal compound, liquid crystal composition and liquid crystal display device using the same
Provided is a liquid crystal compound that can obtain a high-speed response and a sufficient contrast ratio in switching of a display device. A compound represented by formula (1) described below is utilized. ##STR00001## In formula (1), ring A is naphthylene, phenantolylene or anthracenylene, and in the groups, at least one piece of hydrogen may be replaced by halogen, CH.sub.3, C.sub.2H.sub.5, CF.sub.3, CHF.sub.2, CH.sub.2F, OCF.sub.3, OCHF.sub.2 or OCH.sub.2F; and X.sup.1, X.sup.2, X.sup.3, X.sup.4, X.sup.5, Y.sup.1, Y.sup.2, Y.sup.3, Y.sup.4 and Y.sup.5 are independently hydrogen or fluorine, but at least two or more of X.sup.1, X.sup.2, X.sup.3, X.sup.4, X.sup.5, Y.sup.1, Y.sup.2, Y.sup.3, Y.sup.4 and Y.sup.5 is fluorine.

Provided are a light color conversion material and a light color conversion ink. The light color conversion material includes a quantum dot and a cross-linkable cholesteric liquid crystal material. The cross-linkable cholesteric liquid crystal material encapsulates the quantum dot. The cross-linkable cholesteric liquid crystal material has Bragg diffraction characteristic after cross-linking, and blue light with a wavelength between 400 nm and 480 nm may be reflected by the cross-linked cholesteric liquid crystal material and transmitted through the cross-linked cholesteric liquid crystal material at the same time.

A plurality of A.sup.2's may be the same or different from each other. n represents an integer of 3 to 7.

Liquid-crystal medium comprising polymerisable compounds and the use thereof in liquid-crystal displays
The present invention relates to a liquid-crystal (LC) medium comprising one or more polymerisable compounds and to the use of the LC medium for optical, electro-optical and electronic purposes, in particular in LC displays, especially in LC displays of the polymer sustained alignment (PS, PSA) or self-aligning (SA) type.

The present invention provides an improved adhesion when a polymerizable liquid crystal composition is applied to a film substrate and cured, improved storage stability of the composition when the composition is used in a PSA display device, and a liquid crystal display device having improved display characteristics. The polymerizable compound is represented by general formula (I). The invention provides an optically anisotropic film using the polymerizable compound, and a liquid crystal display device using the polymerizable compound.

A liquid crystal composition containing a polymerizable compound of the present invention has excellent characteristics of being able to prepare a PSA type liquid crystal display element with no problem of depositing in a wide temperature range, having high polymerization speed, high liquid crystal alignment regulation force after polymerization, excellent display qualities with no display unevenness, and excellent display characteristics with no defects in display characteristics such as image sticking and is appropriate as a liquid crystal composition in a practical use. Further, the liquid crystal display element with the above-described liquid crystal composition can be appropriately used for a PSA type liquid crystal display element.
