ULTRASOUND LOCALIZATION SYSTEM WITH ADVANCED BIOPSY SITE MARKERS

Disclosed biopsy markers are adapted to serve as localization markers during a surgical procedure. Adaptation includes incorporation of materials detectable under ultrasound during surgery, as well as features for co-registration with image guidance or other real-time imaging technologies during surgery. Such biopsy markers, when used as localization markers, improve patient comfort and reduce challenges in surgical coordination and surgery time. Additional disclosed biopsy markers are adapted to serve as monitoring and/or detection apparatuses, Localization of an implanted marker may be done with ultrasound technology. Ultrasound image data is analyzed to identify the implanted marker. A distance to the marker or a lesion may be determined and displayed. The determined distance may be a distance between the ultrasound probe and the marker or lesion, a distance between the marker or lesion and an incision instrument, and/or a distance between the ultrasound probe and the incision instrument.

Apparatus, system and methods are described for providing a health care provider (HCP) with an enhanced reality perceptual experience for surgical, interventional, therapeutic, and diagnostic use. The apparatus, system and methods make use of a combination of sensors and audio visual data to cross-correlate information, and present the correlated information to the HCP on to one or more platforms for use during a diagnostic, interventional, therapeutic, or surgical procedure.

Alignment of medical images in augmented reality displays

An AR headset is described to co-localize an image data set with a body of a person. One method can include identifying optical codes with a contrast medium in a tubing on the body of the person using the AR headset. The image data set can be aligned with the body of the person using the fixed position of the image visible marker with the contrast medium in the tubing with respect to the optical code referenced to a representation of the image visible marker. In one configuration, an image data set can be scaled by comparing a measured size of the image visible marker (e.g., gadolinium tubing) in the captured image data set to the known size of the image visible marker. In addition, a center of an optical code may be identified to more accurately align the image data set with a body of a person.

Method for postural independent location of targets in diagnostic images acquired by multimodal acquisitions and system for carrying out the method

A method for postural independent location of targets in diagnostic images acquired by multimodal acquisitions, compensating for deformation of soft tissues due to changing posture, includes generating a transition of a digital image of the inside of a target region from a first to a second position by correlating the position of markers placed on the external surface of the target region in a digital image of the inside of the target region and in a digital representation of the external surface of the target region acquired by optically scanning the external surface; and at a later time registering the diagnostic image of the inside of the target region, transitioned into the second position, with a diagnostic image of the same target region acquired with the target region in the second position by matching a second representation of the external surface of the target region in the second position without markers with the diagnostic image of the inside of the target region transitioned into the second position.

Surgical System Control Based On Voice Commands

A controller for a surgical navigation system is presented. The controller is configured to receive a position signal from a tracking system, wherein the position signal is indicative of a position of a hand-held surgical device that is tracked by the surgical navigation system inside an operation environment. The controller is further configured to receive sound signals from a plurality of microphones directed toward the operation environment, wherein the sound signals potentially contain one or more voice commands from one or more voice sources inside the operation environment. The controller is configured to process the sound signals dependent on the position signal.

Biopsy marker

A biopsy marker may include three shaped portions arranged sequentially along an axis, each shaped portion having a first surface and a second surface parallel to the first surface. A first narrow portion connects a first of the three shaped portions to a second of the three shaped portions. A second narrow portion connects the second of the three shaped portions to a third of the three shaped portions. The first narrow portion is twisted about the axis such that the first surface of the first shaped portion is at a first angle to the first surface of the second shaped portion. The second narrow portion is twisted about the axis such that the first surface of the second shaped portion is at a second angle to the first surface of the third shaped portion.
