METHOD AND APPARATUS TO ACCOUNT FOR TRANSPONDER TAGGED OBJECTS USED DURING CLINICAL PROCEDURES, EMPLOYING A TROCAR
An apparatus for use in clinical environments. The apparatus includes a trocar, having a cannula with a proximal end and a distal end. The cannula defines a lumen therethrough that extends from the proximal end to the distal end. A proximal port at the proximal end provides access to an interior of the lumen from an exterior of the cannula. Further, a distal port at the distal end provides access to the interior of the lumen from the exterior of the cannula. At least one trocar antenna is physically coupled to the trocar and is positioned and oriented to provide wireless communications coverage to at least a portion of an interior of the lumen and to any wireless communications transponders that pass through the lumen of the cannula.

Body mounted Laser Indirect Ophthalmoscope (LIO) system
A body-mounted laser-indirect ophthalmoscope (LIO) system for delivering laser energy into an eye of a patient includes a wearable assembly which secures a control module, laser module, and/or power module (including a battery) to the body of the user. The control module receives activation signals and parameter information from an activation unit a mobile computing device and controls the laser energy emitted by the laser module based on the parameter information. The parameter information is user-provided via a graphical user interface or by voice control (e.g. recognizing voice commands in audio data captured by the mobile computing device). In the preferred embodiment, the wearable assembly includes only a headset, in which case the control, power and laser modules are provided on the headset; however, an alternative embodiment includes a utility belt from which a fiber optic cable for emitting the laser energy is routed to the headset.

Also provided is an adapter for the connection port of the working channel of a bronchoscope which performs both sealing and tool-locking functions. Also disclosed is a guide sheath arrangement with a reduced flexibility proximal portion to facilitate insertion of tools into the guide sheath.
