A medical device system configured to dynamically switch motor control protocols while a motor within a handheld device is operating to increase efficiency of the motor operation and to provide improved reliability and performance is disclosed. In at least one embodiment, the medical device system may be configured to dynamically switch motor control protocols while the motor is operating based on input from one or more sensors configured to monitor a motor, including, but not limited to, monitoring a magnetic flux field of the motor or monitoring current to the motor. The medical device system may dynamically switch motor control protocols between motor control protocols, including, but not limited to, Six-Step Commutation, Hall-Based Sinusoidal Commutation and Field Oriented Commutation.

The controller controls the pressurized irrigation fluid source based on an estimated flow value modified by a compensation factor.
System and method for estimating instrument location
Systems and methods for estimating instrument location are described. The methods and systems can obtain a first motion estimate based on robotic data and a second motion estimate based on position sensor data. The methods and systems can determine a motion estimate disparity based on a comparison of the first and second motion estimates. Based on the motion estimate disparity, the methods and systems can update a weighting factor for a location derivable from the robotic data or a weighting factor for a location derivable from the position sensor data. Based on the updated weighting factor, the methods and systems can determine a location/position estimate for the instrument. The methods and systems can provide increased accuracy for a position estimate in cases where the instrument experiences buckling or hysteresis.

A method for producing a surgical instrument is disclosed. The method comprises obtaining a handle, wherein the handle comprises a distal end comprising a shaft interface surface and a first set of magnetic elements. The method further comprises obtaining a shaft, wherein the shaft comprises a proximal end comprising a handle interface surface, a second set of magnetic elements, and a third set of magnetic elements. The method further comprises attaching the shaft to the handle, wherein the shaft interface surface is configured to engage the shaft at the handle interface surface, wherein an attractive magnetic force is configured to pull the handle towards the shaft when the first set of magnetic elements interact with the second magnetic elements, and wherein a repulsive magnetic force is configured to repel the handle from the shaft when the first set of magnetic elements interacts with the third set of magnetic elements.
Hydrating cancellus bone cortical drill
A cortical drill for hydrating and drilling cancellous bone when preparing a dental implant includes a stem portion and a drill portion, the stem portion with a locking notch and a water inlet configured for receiving fluid under pressure into the cortical drill. The drill portion has an elongated substantially conical body having an outer wall. The drill portion has a slot portion, and the slot portion includes a cut-out forming an inlet along a peripheral surface of the conical body. A plurality of jets are formed in the slot portion, with the jets in communication with the water inlet, and the jets arranged along the slot portion, such that fluid travelling under pressure into the water inlet, travels through the stem portion and the drill portion, and exits the jets in the slot portion.

An elongate ultrasonic dissector-shaver probe has a laterally enlarged head extending distally and transversely from a distal end of a shaft and provided with sets of spiraling ribs. In a disc space preparation procedure, the probe is inserted into a spinal disc between two vertebral endplates, ultrasonic vibratory energy is conducted into the probe, and the probe is manipulated to move the laterally enlarged head in three spatial directions within the spinal disc to thereby disrupt and shred the spinal disc material into fragments extracted from the space, in part by suction and in part by using forceps to pull spinal disc fragments from the operative space or surgical site between the vertebral endplates.

A distance between the first roller and the second roller is defined by a position of a movement of the first and second roller along the axis extending perpendicular to their longitudinal axes. The first and second rollers are biased to contact each other and may be moved along the axis to increase the distance to allow insertion of an instrument through a gap provided by the distance.
