Electrosurgical Device
Disclosed herein is an electrosurgical device including a handle at a proximal end and an elongate shaft coupled to the handle and extending distally from the handle. The device also includes a distal working end, including a return electrode and an active electrode supported by an insulative spacer, the insulative spacer separating the return and active electrode. The active electrode has a planar surface that is distal facing and defines a maximum planar surface length. The insulative spacer is generally tapered between the return electrode and active electrode. The insulative spacer has a planar stabilizing surface on a device first side that has a length that extends along the longitudinal axis, extending from a distal-most end of the return electrode to a leading edge surface of the active electrode. This length is at least as long as the maximum planar surface length.
PERICARDIOTOMY DEVICES AND RELATED METHODS
Electrosurgical pericardiotomy devices are disclosed. An example electrosurgical pericardiotomy device configured to create an opening through a pericardium may include an end effector comprising a tip portion and at least one electrosurgical electrode. The tip portion may include an opening configured to engage a target portion of a pericardium, and the tip portion may be configured, upon application of vacuum to the tip portion, to separate the target portion of the pericardium from an external surface of a heart. The electrosurgical electrode may be disposed proximate the tip portion so that, with vacuum applied to the tip portion, the target portion of the pericardium contacts the electrosurgical electrode. The electrosurgical electrode may be configured to create an opening through the target portion of the pericardium using electrosurgical energy.
PERICARDIOTOMY DEVICES AND RELATED METHODS
Pericardiotomy devices are disclosed. An example pericardiotomy device includes an elongated shaft and an end effector disposed distally on the shaft. The end effector includes a tip portion and a penetrating element. The tip portion includes an opening configured to engage a target portion of a pericardium and is configured, upon application of vacuum to the tip portion, to separate the target portion of the pericardium from an external surface of a heart. The penetrating element is disposed within the tip portion so that, with vacuum applied to the tip portion, the penetrating element is operative to create an opening in the target portion of the pericardium.
Tissue resection and treatment with shedding pulses
A fluid stream is directed toward tissue to generate a plurality of shedding clouds. The fluid stream can be scanned such that the plurality of shedding clouds arrive a different overlapping locations. Each of the plurality of shedding clouds can remove a portion of the tissue. In many embodiments, an apparatus to ablate tissue comprises a source of pressurized fluid, and a nozzle coupled to the source of pressurized fluid to release a fluid stream, in which the fluid stream generates a plurality of shedding clouds.
IMPLANTABLE DEVICE FOR OPTICALLY STIMULATING THE BRAIN COMPRISING A MULTI-CHANNEL CATHETER
An implantable device for optically stimulating a brain of a human being or animal, including: a multi-channel biocompatible catheter including a plurality of channels extending substantially parallel to each other relative to a longitudinal axis of the multi-channel catheter; a light guide, extending into one channel, for optically stimulating the brain, the multi-channel catheter acting as a sheath totally enveloping the light guide; a functional element, extending into another channel, to measure light injected into a surrounding medium at a distal end of the light guide and/or an element acting on the shape of the multi-channel catheter.
Devices and Methods for Electrosurgical Navigation
A method and apparatus or system are disclosed for a procedure with minimal or no fluoroscopy, for example an electrosurgical procedure, and which uses a three dimensional mapping system. The procedure typically involves electrical measurement of the electrode of a needle to determine its position. Some embodiments further include intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) for tracking devices. The apparatus includes a needle with a tip electrode, an electroanatomical mapping (EAM) system, and an electrical generator, wherein a switching device is used to restrictively electrically connect the needle to only one of the mapping system or generator at a given time.
Graphical user interface for association with an electrode structure deployed in contact with a tissue region
Systems and methods deploy an electrode structure in contact with the tissue region. The electrode structure carries a sensor at a known location on the electrode structure to monitor an operating condition. The systems and methods provide an interface, which generate an idealized image of the electrode structure and an indicator image to represent the monitored operating condition in a spatial position on the idealized image corresponding to the location of the sensor on the electrode structure. The interface displays a view image comprising the idealized image and indicator image. The systems and methods cause the electrode structure to apply energy to heat the tissue region while the view image is displayed on the display screen.
ELECTROSURGICAL INSTRUMENT
Instruments having a hood that defines and surrounds a flow chamber. The flow chamber can serve for suction of emissions that are produced due to influence of an electrode supplied with high frequency voltage on biological tissue. For elimination of tissue deposition and other clogging from the flow chamber the electrode is surrounded by a movable hood that can be transitioned for cleaning purposes out of its operating position into a cleaning position.
Robotic Device with Compact Joint Design and Related Systems and Methods
The embodiments disclosed herein relate to various robotic and/or in vivo medical devices having compact joint configurations. Other embodiments relate to various medical device components, including forearms having grasper or cautery end effectors, that can be incorporated into certain robotic and/or in vivo medical devices.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PERMANENT FEMALE CONTRACEPTION
Medical devices and methods for treating and occluding a female patient's fallopian tubes to provide permanent birth control or sterilization.
