Method Of Lubricating An Internal Combustion Engine
The invention provides a method of lubricating a compression-ignition internal combustion engine with a maximum laden mass over 2,700 kg comprising supplying to the engine a lubricating composition comprising: an oil of lubricating viscosity, a 300 TBN or higher alkaline earth metal sulphonate detergent having a metal ratio of 10 to 40, 0.1 wt % to 4 wt % of a borated polyisobutylene succinimide dispersant, wherein the polyisobutylene from which the borated polyisobutylene succinimide is derived has a number average molecular weight of 550 to 1150, and 0.1 wt % to 6 wt % of a polyisobutylene succinimide, wherein the polyisobutylene from which polyisobutylene succinimide is derived has a number average molecular weight of 1550 to 2500, 0 wt % to 0.2 wt % of a phenolic based detergent, wherein the total amount of soap delivered by the alkaline earth metal sulphonates (typically calcium sulphonate) is 0.4 to 1 wt % of the lubricating composition, and wherein the lubricating composition has a sulphated ash content of not more than 1.5 wt %.
Stimuli-Responsive Micro-Reservoirs for Release of Encapsulants
This invention relates to polymer-based partially-open, hollow reservoirs in the nano-size to micro-size range that encapsulate an additive, which can be released from the reservoirs using specific event stimuli such as reduction-oxidation and voltage change, or at will, using the same stimuli. This invention also relates to method preparing such reservoirs, and for releasing the additive. This invention further relates to matrix that comprises such reservoirs and the method of preparing such matrix. This invention also relates to applications, for example in corrosion inhibition, lubrication, and adhesion, that benefit from using such a controlled release of an additive.
Aromatic detergents and lubricating compositions thereof
The disclosed technology provides a lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.2 wt % to 10 wt % of a salt of a hydroxyl functional aromatic compound. The disclosed technology further relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device with the lubricant composition.
ADDITIVES WITH HIGH SULFURIZATION FOR LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITIONS
The present disclosure provides a method for preparing a sulfurized alkyl phenate product to achieve a high sulfurization ratio of sulfurized alkyl phenate to unsulfurized alkyl phenate/phenol in the context of a neutralized and optionally overbased additive. The sulfurized alkyl phenate product is obtained by sulfurizing an alkyl phenol with a sulfur chloride blend that includes about 40 to about 75 weight percent of sulfur dichloride.
DETERGENT SYSTEMS FOR IMPROVED PISTON CLEANLINESS
The present disclosure relates to lubricating compositions achieving piston cleanliness pursuant to CEC L-117-20 (VW TDi3) that fail to achieve desired piston cleanliness pursuant to CEC L-078-99 (VW TDi2).
