The need for a liquid hard surface cleaning composition which provides antimicrobial efficacy and good cleaning is met by formulating the composition using an antimicrobial active in combination with an amine oxide surfactant and additional non-ionic surfactant at the desired ratio.

In one embodiment, the present invention is a cleaning composition including an anionic surfactant salt, a saturated C.sub.8 to C.sub.10 alkyl amide solvent, a cosolvent and water. The composition is substantially free of d-limonene and can remove red food soils with up to 20 percent protein, and also functions as an asphalt removal composition.

A water based adhesive removal composition which is effective and non-residual on magnesium and alloys comprises an alkali, a main solvent, a volatilization inhibitor, a cosolvent, a corrosion inhibitor, a penetrant, a thickening agent, a surface active agent, and water. The water based adhesive removal composition is water-based formula, the water-based formula is not easy to volatilize and is not flammable. When being used to remove adhesive attached on the magnesium alloy component, there is no risk of magnesium ignition.
