Animal feed or animal feed additives comprising one or more polypeptides having lysozyme activity. Polypeptides having lysozyme activity, polynucleotides encoding the polypeptides nucleic acid constructs, vectors, and host cells comprising the polynucleotides as well as methods of producing and using the polypeptides.

Microorganisms and methods for producing biologics and introducing biologics to sites

Microorganisms comprising a maltose-inducible promoter and methods of use in producing biologics and introducing biologics to sites in a maltose-dependent manner. The microorganisms include a maltose-inducible promoter operably connected to a coding sequence of a biologic. The biologic may be a polypeptide or a nucleic acid. Polypeptide biologics may include lytic proteins and/or secreted proteins. Nucleic acid biologics may include antisense RNA, other types of RNA, or other types of nucleic acids. The microorganisms can be used to produce the biologics and/or introduce the biologics to in vitro or in vivo sites in a maltose-dependent manner. The microorganisms can also be used in maltose-dependent gene silencing.

Methods for Lysis of Cells Within a Sample

There is described a method for extracting a target chemical compound from a cellular material in a sample. The method comprising the steps of: subjecting the sample to mechanical lysis to cause disruption of a cellular membrane in the cellular material; contacting the sample with an alkaline material to produce a lysate composition comprising the target chemical compound; and recovering the lysate composition from the sample. There is also described a method for producing a lysate composition comprising RNA from a mammalian bodily fluid sample comprising a cellular material. There is also described a method for extracting a nucleic acid from a cellular material in a bodily fluid or an inoculant derived therefrom.
