STREPTOCOCCUS BACTERIOPHAGE LYSINS FOR DETECTION AND TREATMENT OF GRAM POSITIVE BACTERIA
The present invention provides methods, compositions and articles of manufacture useful for the prophylactic and therapeutic amelioration and treatment of gram-positive bacteria, including Streptococcus and Staphylococcus, and related conditions. The invention provides compositions and methods incorporating and utilizing Streptococcus suis derived bacteriophage lysins, particularly PlySs2 and/or PlySs1 lytic enzymes and variants thereof, including truncations thereof. Methods for treatment of humans are provided.
Polypeptides having Lysozyme Activity, Polynucleotides Encoding Same and Uses and Compositions Thereof
Animal feed or animal feed additives comprising one or more polypeptides having lysozyme activity. Polypeptides having lysozyme activity, polynucleotides encoding the polypeptides nucleic acid constructs, vectors, and host cells comprising the polynucleotides as well as methods of producing and using the polypeptides.
MILK PROTEIN PRODUCTION IN TRANSGENIC PLANTS
The disclosure describes a transgenic dicot or monocot plant having bovine milk protein(s) and methods of producing the transgenic dicot or monocot plant containing bovine milk protein(s). These transgenic dicot or monocot plants can express and produce bovine milk protein(s). The methods involve introducing a recombinant DNA construct expressing a bovine milk protein into a dicot or monocot plant, obtaining the dicot or monocot plant containing the bovine milk protein(s) from a recombinant DNA construct, cultivating and harvesting the transgenic dicot or monocot plant, and extracting and purifying the bovine milk protein(s) from transgenic dicot or monocotyledonous plants.
Staphylococcus lysin and use thereof
The present invention discloses a lysin that is capable of killing Staphylococcus and the use thereof, belonging to the field of biological agents. The present invention discloses the amino acid sequence and the encoding gene sequence of the lysin. This lysin keeps active in a wide range of pH. It has lytic activity against Staphylococcus in pH 4-11. The recombinant protease constructed by the encoding gene can be solubly expressed in E. coli strain BL21 (DE3). The lysin can be used to effectively kill multiple species Staphylococcus in vitro, including methicillin sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolated in clinics. This lysin can be used as an antibiotic for the treatment of staphylococcal infections in vivo. This lysin is also able to rapidly lyse staphylococcal cell wall; as a result, intracellular substances such as ATP and DNA are released. Those released substances can be used to detect the type of Staphylococcus.
EXCIPIENT COMPOUNDS FOR BIOPOLYMER FORMULATIONS
The invention encompasses formulations and methods for the production thereof that permit the delivery of concentrated protein solutions. The inventive methods can yield a lower viscosity liquid protein formulation or a higher concentration of therapeutic or nontherapeutic proteins in the liquid formulation, as compared to traditional protein solutions. The inventive methods can also yield a higher stability of a liquid protein formulation.
Recovery Process
Disclosed is a method for recovering a desired fermentation product from a fermentation broth where the desired product has precipitated during the fermentation.
Method for crystallizing protein
Provided are a protein crystal device and method for crystallizing protein capable of generating protein crystal without imparting a heat effect, a protein crystal-cutting device and method for cutting protein crystal capable of cutting protein crystal without imparting a heat effect on protein crystal, and bubble-jetting member and protein-adsorbing-bubble-jetting member used in said device. A bubble-jetting member is used in a protein crystal device to jet bubbles into a protein solution to thereby allow protein crystals to be obtained, the bubble-jetting member comprising: a core formed of a conductive material; a shell part formed of an insulating material, including an extended section extending from the tip of the core, and in which at least a portion closely adheres to the core to cover the core; and a gap having a bubble-jetting port, the gap being formed between the extended section and the tip of the core.
METHOD FOR DETECTING STREPTOCOCCUS BACTERIUM CONTAINED IN MILK
The object is to provide a lysis method and lysis treatment solution for efficiently lysing cells of various Streptococcus bacteria in milk of a livestock animal to release a specific antigen substance contained in the cells for detecting whether causative bacterium of mastitis is a Streptococcus bacterium or not by using the milk, as well as a detection method using an immunochromatographic device. There is provided a method for lysing a Streptococcus bacterium, which comprises the step of mixing a lysis agent containing a lytic enzyme with milk obtained form a livestock animal to lyse a Streptococcus bacterium existing in the milk. The lytic enzyme is preferably at least one selected from the group consisting of lysozyme, labiase, and -N-acetylglucosaminidase.
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR PRESSURE-DRIVEN PLUG TRANSPORT AND REACTION
The present invention provides microfabricated substrates and methods of conducting reactions within these substrates. The reactions occur in plugs transported in the flow of a carrier-fluid.
METHOD FOR REDUCING CONTAMINATION OF AN OBJECT WITH CLOSTRIDIUM
The invention provides a method of preventing or reducing contamination of food with Clostridium, comprising contacting said object with a composition comprising at least one endolysin active against said Clostridium.
