There is described an implant comprising: (a) a bone engaging portion positioned at the distal end of the implant, said bone engaging portion comprising: a longitudinally extending distal portion; and an adjoining region positioned at the proximal end of the longitudinally extending distal portion; (b) a transmucosal portion positioned at the proximal end of the adjoining region; and (c) an abutment portion positioned at the proximal end of the transmucosal portion, wherein the exterior surface of the longitudinally extending distal portion comprises a conformal microscale cell structure and optionally, a non-biological coating; wherein the exterior surface of the abutment portion is polished, suitably, to a mirrored or super mirrored finish and/or wherein the exterior surface of the abutment portion has an R.sub.a of between about 1 and about 3 um; wherein the exterior surface of the adjoining region comprises a roughened surface, suitably with an R.sub.a of between about 5 and about 30 um; and wherein the exterior surface of the transmucosal portion comprises a plurality of micro holes.

Dental implant

A dental implant includes an anchoring region (12) for anchoring in a bone, which preferably includes a thread (14) for screwing in the bone, and a fastening region (22) for attaching a supra-construction, wherein an abutment region (16) adjoins the anchoring region (12), the abutment region (16) having a guide structure with a plurality of outwardly projecting ridges (18) provided thereon, and preferably, grooves (20) being formed between the ridges (20). The guide structure of the anchoring region (12) allows a better osseointegration and counteracts peri-implant bone loss.

Dental implants, dental abutments, and dental systems are disclosed. A dental implant can include an implant body having a longitudinal axis, a coronal end, and an apical end. An internal bore can be provided within the implant body, and can have a coronal end, adjacent to the coronal end of the implant body, and an apical end. The internal bore can include a first internally facing surface, extending from the coronal end of the internal bore towards the apical end of the internal bore, at least a portion of which tapers inwardly towards the apical end of the internal bore. The internal bore can further include an internally threaded portion positioned between an apical end of the first internally facing surface and the apical end of the internal bore. A dental abutment can be configured to engage with the dental implant.
