SEMI-BIOSYNTHETIC PRODUCTION OF FATTY ALCOHOLS AND FATTY ALDEHYDES
The present application relates to methods of producing one or more fatty alcohols and/or one or more fatty aldehydes from one or more unsaturated lipid moieties by combining the obtainment or production of the one or more unsaturated lipid moieties from a biological source with conversion by non-biological means of the one or more unsaturated lipid moieties to one or more fatty alcohols and/or one or more fatty aldehydes. The present application also relates to recombinant microorganisms having a biosynthesis pathway for the production of one or more unsaturated lipid moieties. The one or more fatty alcohols can further be chemically converted to one or more corresponding fatty acetates. The one or more fatty alcohols, one or more fatty aldehydes and/or one or more fatty acetates produced by the methods described herein may be one or more insect pheromones, one or more fragrances, one or more flavoring agents, or one or more polymer intermediates.
Enzymatic transesterification/esterification processes employing lipases immobilized on hydrophobic resins in the presence of water solutions
Disclosed are processing systems and processes for carrying out enzymatic batchwise or continuous process for the production of fatty acid alkyl esters for use in the biofuels, food and detergent industries.
ANIMAL MEAL THAT INCLUDES FUNGAL BIOMASS
Disclosed herein are compositions comprising an isolated cellulose degrading fungus. Also disclosed are culture compositions and bioreactor compositions comprising the cellulose degrading fungus. Further described herein are filtration and extraction devices comprising the cellulose degrading fungus. Still further disclosed are bioprocessing facilities for and methods for producing co-products resulting from one or more bioprocesses of the cellulose degrading fungus.
Heterotrophically cultivated recombinant microalgae
Disclosed herein are methods of manufacturing renewable chemicals through the manufacture of novel triglyceride oils followed by chemical modification of the oils. Methods such as transesterification, hydrogenation, hydrocracking, deoxygenation, isomerization, interesterification, hydroxylation, hydrolysis and saponification are disclosed. Novel oils containing fatty acid chain lengths of C8, C10, C12 or C14 are also disclosed and are useful as feedstocks in the methods of the invention.
Method for preparing functional edible oil rich in phytosterol esters and diglycerides
A method for preparing functional edible oil rich in phytosterol esters and diglycerides includes steps of: 1) adding a raw material: adding phytosterol, triglyceride and a molecular sieve into a reactor, wherein a ratio of the phytosterol and the triglyceride is 1:2-1:4, a molecular sieve amount is 50 g/L; heating to 50-60? C. and stirring for 30-60 min, for obtaining a pre-mixture; 2) providing non-aqueous enzymatic transesterification: adding 5-20 g/L lipase into the pre-mixture, adding 100-200 ppm antioxidant, stirring and reacting for 8-12 h with a temperature of 50-60? C. and an atmospheric pressure, stopping heating and naturally cooling to a room temperature; and 3) post-treating: after reaction, removing the lipase and the molecular sieve by centrifugation, for obtaining the functional edible oil. The functional edible oil rich in two nutritional active components is obtained by the one-step method. Products of the present invention do not need separation and purification, and operation is simple.
Methods and Devices for Producing Biodiesel and Products Obtained Therefrom
Methods and devices for economically producing a purified biodiesel product from feedstocks. Some embodiments of the methods comprise using at least one of a crude feedstock pretreatment process and a free fatty acid refining process prior to transesterification and the formation of crude biodiesel and glycerin. The crude biodiesel is then subjected to at least one biodiesel refining process which, in conjunction with feedstock pretreatment and free fatty acid refining produces a purified biodiesel product that meets multiple commercial specifications. A wide variety of feedstocks may be used to make biodiesel that otherwise would not meet the same commercial specifications, including corn oil, used cooking oil, poultry fats, fatty acid distillates, pennycress oil, and algal oils. The combination of feedstock refining and biodiesel refining processes is necessary to reduce problems associated with feedstocks having waxes, high free fatty acid levels, unacceptable color, high unsaponifiables levels, and high sulfur levels.
ENGINEERED CYANOBACTERIA WITH ENHANCED LIPID PRODUCTION
A recombinant strain of F. diplosiphon was made by transforming wild type F. diplosiphon with a pGEM-7Zf (+) plasmid containing sterol desaturase gene (SD) via electroporation. The recombinant strain was designated B481-SD and overexpressed the sterol desaturase gene to result in enhanced lipid production. Selection made on NaCl enabled growth of the transformant to thrive up to 50 g L.sup.?1 NaCl. This strain was designated B481-SDH.
Use of marine algae for co-producing alkenones, alkenone derivatives, and co-products
A method comprising a series of selective extraction techniques for the parallel production of biodiesel and isolation of several valuable co-products including an alkenone hydrocarbon mixture of the kerosene/jet fuel range (primarily C10-, C12-, and C17-hydrocarbons) and fucoxanthin, a high-valued carotenoid, from the marine alkenone-producing microalgae Isochrysis.
DEVICE AND METHOD OF PRODUCING ULTRA-LOW SULFUR BIODIESEL
Provided is a device for producing ultra-low sulfur biodiesel. The device for producing ultra-low sulfur biodiesel is a two-stage processing device, comprising a two-stage purification unit, a two-stage enzyme reaction unit, a two-stage distillation unit, and a decompression rectification unit. The present invention is green and environment-friendly, effectively and completely removing sulfur-containing impurities from the raw material, eliminating the attack of a sulfur-containing group in the synthesis process on fatty acids, and providing sufficient conditions for obtaining ultra-low sulfur content methyl esters in the product section.
