A method of artificially inseminating a hen includes the steps of securing a male bird, applying a semen extender liquid to a tip of a cloacal protuberance of the male bird, squeezing the cloacal protuberance to extract semen from the male bird into the semen extender liquid to form a mixture, applying a tip of a pipette to the mixture, drawing the mixture into the pipette, securing the hen, inserting the pipette into the hen's cloaca, and squeezing a bulb of the pipette to inject the mixture from the pipette into the cloaca. A holding device for restraining a bird during sperm collection and artificial insemination procedures has a base, an arm extending upward from the base, and an open-ended receptacle connected to the upper end of the arm. The holding device is useful in mitigating injury to the bird and the handler during the procedures.

Bodily fluid collection systems are described where the system may be used for collecting and transferring sperm into a syringe. The syringe is configured to have a distal collection tip which is gently tapered or radiused to present a smooth and atraumatic surface and which is specifically configured and shaped to be inserted within and received by the collection receptacle. The distal collection tip has a shape which corresponds directly to a tapered reservoir defined at the bottom of the collection receptacle such that a distal opening defined through the tip is optimally positioned within the concentrated bodily fluid pooled within the reservoir for collection. Moreover, the gentle taper of the collection tip may present an atraumatic surface for inhibiting damage to the sperm contained within the ejaculate as the sperm is suctioned into the distal opening for insemination into the female.

An artificial propagation method of Sinocyclocheilus rhinocerous, comprising placing female and male parent fish in a sterilized culture container in which a black cave simulant is placed in advance, strictly controlling the environmental parameters of the parent fish culture. The method realizes natural spawning and sperm production of S. rhinocerous under artificial conditions without using oxytocin. There is no oxytocin used in the artificial propagation, thus not only obtaining a higher fertilization rate and incubating rate, but also reducing the aquaculture cost. The operation is simpler and faster. At the same time, different feeds are fed in different growth stages according to the different growth characteristics of each stage of S. rhinocerous fry, thereby increasing the survival rate and reducing the deformity rate of fries. Therefore, the method provided by the present disclosure realizes efficient artificial propagation method of S. rhinocerous.
