An electrocoagulation unit for removing one or more dissolved constituents from an untreated feedstock comprises a non-electrically conductive housing having a fluid inlet, a fluid outlet and an interior surface; a cathode and anode arranged within the housing, the cathode and anode each having an ionizing surface, the ionizing surfaces of the anode and cathode in opposed facing relation so as to define a gap having a separation distance therebetween; the cathode and the anode configured to be electrically coupled to a DC power supply in a DC electrical circuit so as to ionize and dissolve the ionizing surface of the anode; and a controller configured to maintain the separation distance at a set value as the ionizing surface of the anode dissolves. A method for using a plurality of electrocoagulation units in series is also provided.

The upflow electrochemical coagulation reactor comprises a cathode fixed inside the reactor; at least one movable anode positioned at a predetermined distance from the cathode; a sensor configured to sense a change in the distance between the cathode and the anode; a controller configured to make the distance between the cathode and the anode constant while adapting to a change in the distance between the cathode and the anode sensed by the sensor; and a first separator and a second separator, the first separator being positioned above the second separator; and a sludge outlet being in fluid communication with the second separator for sludge delivery therebetween. By using the upflow electrochemical coagulation reactor, power-efficient removing of low-concentration contaminants present in wastewater can be performed.

A simple and efficient electrolysis device for making electrolyzed water from pure water, comprising a controllable electrolysis power supply, an electrolytic electrode plate assembly connected to said power supply, said component being immersed within the to-be-electrolyzed water when in operation. A gap is provided between an anode and a cathode of the electrolytic electrode plate assembly, the gap distance being greater than 0 mm and less than 10 mm, said gap being designed according to the principle of optimal minimization, being less than 0.1 mm when necessary. The area of the surfaces, on either side of the gap, of the anode and the cathode of the electrolytic electrode plate assembly are designed according to the principle of optimal maximization, within the occupied set space. Also disclosed is a simple electrolysis method for making electrolyzed water from pure water.

Systems and processes for removing and purifying bromide from an aqueous bromide solution are described. Electrochemistry is used to either convert bromide to bromine to allow its extraction in an organic phase, or to cause deposition of bromine onto an electrode. In either case, once removed from the aqueous bromide solution, the bromide can be recovered and purified.
