A display device that includes: a glass substrate comprising a refractive index (n.sub.substrate); a display device structure coupled to the substrate to collectively define a viewing area; and a black mask structure surrounding the display device structure that is coupled to the substrate and comprises a black ink layer and at least one glossy layer between the black ink layer and the glass substrate. The viewing area is characterized by (a) a reflectance from 0.5% to 2.5% as measured at 8 degrees from normal in the visible spectrum, (b) a brightness in the CIE colorimetry system such that 5<L*<17 for the specular component included (SCI), and (c) a brightness in the CIE colorimetry system such that 0<L*<3 for the specular component excluded (SCE). Further, the at least one glossy layer comprises a refractive index (n.sub.glossy) such that |n.sub.glossy−n.sub.substrate|>0.1.
Thermochromic compositions, thermochromic substrates, and related methods of making
Vanadium oxide nanomaterials dispersed in a polymeric matrix, substrates including the vanadium oxide nanomaterials dispersed in a polymeric matrix, and related methods of making vanadium oxide nanomaterials dispersed in a polymeric matrix are described.
BLUE FILTER FOR DISPLAY
A display that includes an image producing system and a light filtering layer in the blue range, the light filtering layer having a limited impact on the gamut of the display. The image producing system has a gamut G.sub.0 defined in a color space The light filtering layer includes semi-conductive nanoparticles, and the absorbance through the light filtering layer is greater than 0.25 for each light wavelength ranging from 350 nm to λ.sub.cut, λ.sub.cut being in the range from 420 nm to 450 nm. The gamut G.sub.1 of the image producing system with the filtering layer has an area greater than 90% of the area of gamut G.sub.0 in the color space.
INKJET INK
An inkjet ink for a glass substrate can enable formation of an aesthetic image with high concealability on the surface of the glass substrate. The inkjet ink disclosed here can include: an inorganic solid including an inorganic pigment that develops a color except for black and a glass frit; a monomer component having a photocuring property; and a photoinitiator. In the inkjet ink, a volume ratio of the inorganic solid in a case where an ink total volume is 100 volume % can be 35 volume % or less, a volume ratio of the inorganic pigment in the case where a total volume of the inorganic solid is 100 volume % can be 15 volume % or more and less than 90 volume %, and a volume ratio of the inorganic pigment to the photoinitiator can be 11 times or less.
THERMAL PROTECTION METHOD
A method for thermally protecting a part according to which a protective screen is placed in an in-use position in which the screen physically isolates at least one portion of the part from a heat source. The heat source is configured to bring the temperature of the at least one portion of the part to a temperature between 400° C. and 900° C. in the absence of the protective screen. The protective screen includes a substrate of glass strands at least partially coated with a coating that includes protective particles of a crystalline material that have a melting point above 1000° C. and is composed of one or more oxides in an amount of more than 95 wt. %. The coating covers more than 50% of the outer surfaces of more than 50% of the number of strands of the substrate.
SURFACE FINISHING METHOD, ANTI-GLARE COATING, AND DISPLAY DEVICE HAVING SAME
A surface finishing method, an anti-glare coating, and a display device having same are provided. The surface finishing method includes adding diffusion particles which have a density less than that of a resin material, and controlling the thickness of the resin material in an anti-glare material coated on a surface of a substrate to be greater than the particle size of the diffusion particles, so that the diffusion particles are evenly dispersed in the resin layer, and a part of the volume of the diffusion particles are exposed on a surface of the resin layer. Thus, the uniformity of the surface haze of the anti-glare coating can be enhanced, and flashing points of the display device can be avoided.
STACKS INCLUDING SOL-GEL LAYERS AND METHODS OF FORMING THEREOF
Provided are methods of forming stacks comprising a substrate and one or more sol-gel layers disposed on the substrate. Also provided are stacks formed by these methods. The sol-gel layers in these stacks, especially outer layers, may have a porosity of less than 1% or even less than 0.5%. In some embodiments, these layers may have a surface roughness (R.sub.a) of less than 1 nanometers. The sol-gel layers may be formed using radiative curing and/or thermal curing at temperatures of between 400° C. and 700° C. or higher. These temperatures allow application of sol-gel layers on new types of substrates. A sol-gel solution, used to form these layers, may have colloidal nanoparticles with a size of less than 20 Angstroms on average. This small size and narrow size distribution is believed to control the porosity of the resulting sol-gel layers.
