METHOD FOR SELECTIVE PHASE REMOVAL IN A NANOCOMPOSITE
A method of selectively removing at least part of a first phase from a surface of a nanocomposite includes at least a first phase and a second phase, each phase having a respective threshold fluence under a given number of applied laser pulses for removal of the phase by laser ablation. The threshold fluence of the first phase is less than the threshold fluence of the second phase. The method includes irradiating the surface of the nanocomposite with a laser beam having a laser beam diameter, a laser pulse duration, and a laser pulse energy during the irradiation. The laser fluence during the irradiation is less than the threshold fluence of the second phase and greater than the threshold fluence of the first phase. The laser beam diameter is greater than an average grain size of the first phase at the surface of the nanocomposite.

Ceramic material and ceramic object
A ceramic material includes zirconia toughened alumina (ZTA) doped with scandium (Sc) ions. ZTA can be further doped with other metal ions, and the other metal ions include cobalt (Co) ions, chromium (Cr) ions, zinc (Zn) ions, titanium (Ti) ions, manganese (Mn) ions, nickel (Ni) ions, or a combination thereof. The ceramic material can be used as a ceramic object, such as a wire bonding capillary, a heat dissipation plate, a denture tooth, orthopedic implants, direct bonded copper, or a high-temperature co-fired ceramic.
CUBIC BORON NITRIDE SINTERED BODY AND COATED CUBIC BORON NITRIDE SINTERED BODY
A cBN sintered body has 40%-85% cBN by volume and 15% to 60% binder phase by volume. and inevitable impurities. The binder phase has an Al compound including Al and at least one element selected from N, O and B, and a Zr compound including Zr and at least one element selected from C, N, O and B. The Zr compound includes ZrO, or ZrO and ZrO.sub.2. In an X-ray diffraction, where a peak intensity of a (111) plane of the ZrO is I.sub.1, a peak intensity of a (101) plane of tetragonal ZrO.sub.2 is I.sub.2t and a peak intensity of a (111) plane of cubic ZrO.sub.2 is I.sub.2c, a ratio of the intensity of I.sub.1 to total intensities of I.sub.1, I.sub.2t and I.sub.2c is 0.6-1.0, and an average grain size of the Al compound is 80 nm-300 nm.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING PART MADE OF COMPOSITE MATERIAL
A method of fabricating a part out of composite material, includes forming a fiber texture from refractory fibers; impregnating the fiber texture for a first time with a first slip containing first refractory particles; eliminating the liquid phase from the first slip so as to leave within the texture only the first refractory particles; impregnating the fiber texture for a second time with a second slip containing second refractory particles; eliminating the liquid phase from the second slip so as to leave within the texture only the second refractory particles and obtain a fiber preform filled with the first and second refractory particles; and sintering the first and second refractory particles present in the fiber preform in order to form a refractory matrix in the preform.
