MONOLITHIC BODIES OF SINTERED CHEMICALLY BONDED CERAMIC (CBC) BIOMATERIAL PREPARED EX VIVO FOR IMPLANTATION, PREPARATION AND USE THEREOF
The present invention generally relates to the use of pre-formed bodies of Chemically Bonded Ceramics (CBCs) biomaterial for implantation purposes wherein the bodies are prepared ex vivo allowing process parameters to be optimized for desired long term properties of the resulting CBC biomaterial. More particularly, the pre-formed CBC material bodies of the present invention are sintered. The pre-formed body of CBC material is machined to the desired geometry and then implanted using a CBC cementation paste for fixation of the body to tissue. The invention also relates to a method of preparing pre-formed bodies of CBC biomaterial for implantation purposes, methods of preparing an implant thereof having desired geometry, and a method of implantation of the implant, as well as a kit for use in the method of implantation.
Thermoelectric material, thermoelectric module, and producing method of thermoelectric material
There is provided a thermoelectric material including a compound which is formed of an element R belonging to alkaline earth metal and lanthanoid, and an element X belonging to any of Group 13 elements, Group 14 elements, and Group 15 elements. The composition ratio of the element R and the element X is selected to obtain the compound having an AlB.sub.2 type structure.
Regenerative burner media
A high strength ceramic body for use in a regenerative burner media bed, comprising a generally spherical refractory portion and a plurality of irregular aggregate portions distributed randomly throughout the generally spherical portion. The aggregate portions are selected from the group comprising tabular alumina, white fused alumina, mullite, chamotte, and combinations thereof. The generally spherical portion has a porosity of less than 1 percent and is more than 99.5 weight percent alumina.
Calcium lanthanoid sulfide powders, methods of making, and ceramic bodies formed therefrom
A method of preparing a fine powder of calcium lanthanoid sulfide is disclosed. The method includes spraying soluble calcium and lanthanoid salts into at least one precipitating solution to form a precipitate comprising insoluble calcium and lanthanoid salts, optionally, oxidizing the precipitate comprising insoluble calcium and lanthanoid salts, and sulfurizing the optionally oxidized precipitate to form a fine powder of calcium lanthanoid sulfide. An alternative method for forming the powder is by flame pyrolysis. The calcium lanthanoid sulfide powder produced by either method can have an impurity concentration of less than 100 ppm, a carbon concentration of less than 200 ppm, a BET surface area of at least 50 m.sup.2/g, and an average particle size of less than 100 nm.
SINTERED MATERIAL, TOOL INCLUDING SINTERED MATERIAL, AND SINTERED MATERIAL PRODUCTION METHOD
To provide a sintered material having excellent oxidation resistance, as well as excellent abrasion resistance and chipping resistance. A sintered material containing a first compound formed of Ti, Al, Si, O, and N is provided.
CEMENTITIOUS REAGENTS, METHODS OF MANUFACTURING AND USES THEREOF
Described are cementitious reagent materials produced from globally abundant inorganic feedstocks. Also described are methods for the manufacture of such cementitious reagent materials and forming the reagent materials as microspheroidal glassy particles. Also described are apparatuses, systems and methods for the thermochemical production of glassy cementitious reagents with spheroidal morphology. The apparatuses, systems and methods makes use of an in-flight melting/quenching technology such that solid particles are flown in suspension, melted in suspension, and then quenched in suspension. The cementitious reagents can be used in concrete to substantially reduce the CO.sub.2 emission associated with cement production.
