MULTILAYER CERAMIC CAPACITOR AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREFOR
A multilayer ceramic capacitor that includes a laminated body of multiple dielectric layers and internal electrodes laminated alternately therewith. The dielectric layers contain Ba, Sr, Ti, Ca, Zr, Mg, and R, where R represents at least one element of Y, La, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, and Yb. When Ti is 100 parts by mol, the dielectric layers contain Sr at 0.5 to 3.0 parts by mol; Ca at 3 to 15 parts by mol; Sr at 0.05 to 3.0 parts by mol; Mg at 0.01 to 0.0 9 parts by mol; and R at 2.5 to 8.4 parts by mol.

A piezoelectric material contains: a first component which is a rhombohedral crystal in a single composition, has a Curie temperature Tc1, and is a lead-free-system composite oxide having a perovskite-type structure; a second component which is a crystal other than a rhombohedral crystal in a single composition, has a Curie temperature Tc2 higher than Tc1, and is a lead-free-system composite oxide having a perovskite-type structure; and a third component which is a rhombohedral crystal in a single composition, has a Curie temperature Tc3 equal to or higher than Tc2, and is a lead-free-system composite oxide that has a perovskite-type structure and is different from the first component. When a molar ratio of the third component to the sum of the first component and the third component is α and α×Tc3+(1−α)×Tc1 is Tc4, |Tc4−Tc2| is 50° C. or lower.
Resorbable ceramics with controlled strength loss rates
Particular aspects of the present disclosure provide bio-resorbable and biocompatible compositions for bioengineering, restoring, or regenerating tissue or bone. In one embodiment, a biocompatible composition includes a three-dimensional porous or non-porous scaffold material comprising a calcium phosphate-based ceramic having at least one dopant therein selected from metal ion dopants or metal oxide dopants. The composition is sufficiently biocompatible to provide for a cell or tissue scaffold, and resorbable at a controlled resorption rate for controlled strength loss under body, body fluid or simulated body fluid conditions.
Method of forming a scintillation crystal including a rare earth halide
A scintillation crystal can include Ln.sub.(1-y)RE.sub.yX.sub.3, wherein Ln represents a rare earth element, RE represents a different rare earth element, y has a value in a range of 0 to 1, and X represents a halogen. In an embodiment, RE is Ce, and the scintillation crystal is doped with Sr, Ba, or a mixture thereof at a concentration of at least approximately 0.0002 wt. %. In another embodiment, the scintillation crystal can have unexpectedly improved linearity and unexpectedly improved energy resolution properties. In a further embodiment, a radiation detection system can include the scintillation crystal, a photosensor, and an electronics device. Such a radiation detection system can be useful in a variety of radiation imaging applications.
Monolithic ceramic rods to enable cooling holes in CMC
A method to form a hole in a ceramic matrix composite component may be provided. A monolithic rod may be inserted into a porous ceramic preform. The ceramic preform may be formed into a ceramic matrix composite body that includes the monolithic rod. A portion of the monolithic rod may be removed, leaving a remaining portion in the ceramic matrix composite body. The remaining portion may include walls that define the opening in the ceramic matrix composite body. Alternatively or in addition, a ceramic matrix composite component may be provided. The ceramic matrix composite component may comprise a ceramic matrix composite body that includes a portion of a monolithic rod. The portion of the monolithic rod forms a lining around a hole passing partly or entirely through a length of the monolithic rod.
